I think everyone should rent a 512 plot before they go premium. That way you can see exactly what you're getting and it teaches you to be creative with your prims.

S.

That is very good advice.

So I see you have managed with 512m that encourages, also a recomendation to rent before buy. Thanks.

You all seem better than me in that you build your own house and things. Not sure on me doing that from a skill piont of view and me being lazy, lol.
I do see houses in the freebie stores and for sale too, I guess some will fit. Those plus a few things to make it homely can it be done with the limit on prims, there seems to be concern about savings.

Yes you can own land on a private island without being a Premium member. It is only if you own land on the mainland that you have to be Premium. However, I heard that tier on private islands is higher. (You'll still have to pay tier to the landlord... however, you won't need to make payments to LL for a Premium membership.)

Tier for a 512 sqm on private estate is always lower then on mainland even renting a 512 on private estate can be cheaper then buying mainland and being premium member asuming it is your first 512 sqm plot.

The raw costs for a landlord in tier is lower below 1/4 sim (16k sqm) and higher above that then compared to mainland and upfront costs can be up to half that of mainland depending on the market and this is reflected in the tier and/or rent a landlord charges.

When I bought my first land I never built anything, I do believe I rezzed my first cube there, then deleted it as I did not know what to do with it. However as I learned it provided a space to do so and I learned how to position and manipluate objects in sl. It took me a long time to learn how to even link two objects together, however with the Ivory Towers help I am now able to do some things like that, and can even build some. I will not call myself an expert but every time I get mad at what I have I learn how to get around the limits rather than having to settle for what I am given.

You will too.. ;)

Hi June! It certainly is possible to function on a small plot of land. I started my business on a little 512 in the Bora sim myself. Then I got a good deal on a larger piece in Echo and moved there with a big grand store and all. And you know what? It wasn't me. So I moved back to a smaller plot and my cozy little boutique and am quite content now :)

I started with a 512 and then wanted more, and more, and more until eventually I had a nice big house with all the bells and whistles. It was great to show off and made me feel good. After a few months I realized after I had showed it off to everyone all I ever did was stand around in one spot in IM's. I tiered back down to a 512 skybox and it was perfect. Like everyone said, with creative decorating and texturing you can really do a lot with a 512. I'm back to owning a lot of land now for my business and I ditched the skybox for a little 1 room apartment above my workshop...still probably the equivalent in size & prims as a 512.

I am homeless and love it.

QFT. I have plenty of places to go and I don't want to stick around home when I'm in SL. If I want a quiet place to sort inventory, I can find one. If I want a party, there are always places to go. I know it really makes some people happy to have a home, so I wouldn't put that down at all, but it's just not my deal.

You went opposite because it made you happy. I was just posting how I like things for me. The cool thing about SL is that it's easy to live however makes you happy. I like being homeless. You like having homes. There's no judgment there. It's great that there are different ways for us to enjoy the platform.

I'm a little late chiming in, but I love my 512m home. It's not the most traditional "home" as there is no house, but it's a very cozy beach that I've opened to the public. I even host (trivia) events there regularly. There is a small tee pee for changing etc since it is a PG sim.

I have recently rented a 1024m plot for my new business. I had a larger home plot once, but the 512m just feels nice and cozy to me. :D

Right, I did.. I got happy being trigger happy.. But now what's funny is that I'm more happy walking from all those rentals as I've finally bought my own piece of dirt.

I've played with building a bit and have maximized my space with a 4 story tower, 16x32m to fit perfectly on my 512 plot.. and it's only 7 prims! plenty of room for toys and artwork now!

512 is a bit small but here is something to consider regarding a 1024 plot.

If you go premium and you pay annually rather than monthly the cost goes down by a couple of bucks a month. Going premium also gets you the L$300 a week stipend. For simplicity sake lets say 1 month = 4 weeks, thats L$1200. Divide that by about 250 to convert to USD works out to about $4.80 a month.
The extra tier for a second 512 is USD $5.00, so deducting the stipend from the extra tier only leaves you about 25c out of pocket per month to own 1024.

I just sold my 2048 to go back down to a 512. My RL wife and I are pretty prim-efficient, so we don't find the 117 prim limit to be a burden. We just enjoy the simplicity of the 512 more than trying to build and decorate a virtual house we're never in anyway. We enjoy having our own little sandbox to land in when we log in and out and we like to use it to work on our building skills. I'm sure wherever we go our neighbors wonder about us as our lot always tends to look like a construction site. If we need a place for friends, we box up the current projects and rez a sky deck. When the entertaining is done we poof the deck and get the projects back out. So, don't fear the 512. It is a useful little plot.

What about this, if I currently own a 512 private, but I want to get mainland: I pay annual so it goes down to $6/month membership.. but do they still waive the tier for only owning 512 mainland?

Yes, they do. The yearly rate also comes with 512 of tier. :)

Right, what I meant was, does LL count any private land you hold against your membership tier?

No, private estate tier is through whoever owns the estate.
LL tier is seperate. You can have lots of private estate land and still get the 512 from the Lindens.

No, they don't ever see that directly unless you own a whole sim, and even then it's outside the mainland tier setup.

And for the Asian Look on 512
04-27-2008 06:04
/196/24/223219/1.html

I saw this little home and really liked it. Pretty sure it would fit on a 512.

Our home is furnished in Asian style and after seeing this ad, we replaced our previous bath area with this type of bathing tub, surrounded it with rice walls and love it!!
