Hello, I have just bought a 4096m2 plot of land and I was wondering what the best rental box out there is. It would need to work for two stories... Meaning one store on floor 1 and a completely different store and owner on floor 2. I've heard a lot about the Hippo rental system, but I don't know if it works for two stories. Any suggestions/ideas/answers? Thanks!

I have a 2-level mall and use HippoTech rental boxes in many stalls on both levels. Works like a dream.

Was there a specific issue you were concerned about?

Nope, All it has to do is the general stuff... Charge weekly, work on two floors, etc... Now that I know it works on two floors, I will probably use it, unless someone has a better suggestion. Thanks!

You can get the Apez Auto-Lease system for free and try it out. It charges a small commission percentage of each lease. If you like it you can buy the systema nd pay no commission on using it.

I have tried a few other rental/lease boxes and strongly recommend Hippo Tech.

it does everything I need, has copy permmision, no commision and has an availale "door plugin" option thats great for apartments, should you decided to go that route.

I've seen a few places where the rental box is saying the place is free to rent but I still see all the previous renter's prims. Do the rental boxes automatically clean the area or is the land owner supposed to do that manually?

Hippo Tech - and you have to clean up the mess yourself!

Only autoreturn or landowners can return prims. The box only tracks prims per renter (if that option's enabled- I don't use it).

1 More question, Please...
07-14-2007 12:12
I guess my earlier suspicions are confirmed, the HippoTech is the way to go. I was wondering, how do you set it for two stories? Maybe a better question is, how do you use it? Just trying to understand it a bit more before I buy it :)

I use auto lease and hippo tech. Hippo tech is great for inworld management via its server. Autolease is great for being able to manage rentals from the apez website.

You put a box on each floor, set the prims and voila. You will get a report if someone is over their prim limit, so will the user. It's a good system but like I said above, so is autolease.

I'm using the hippo boxes, and I can't find the answer to this:

How can the tenant query how many prims they've used? It's annoying for them only to know once they're over their limit -- good, responsible tenants like to track that themselves. Thanks to anyone who has the answer!

Prim counting is wonky no matter how you slice it. You normally have to be online for them to work properly. Maybe it's different for privately owned, non deeded land, but for group owned land, i still need to be online for prim counting to work. Permission issue. j

As for managing via the web, HippoTech just released a web plugin that takes care of that.

Thanks for answering so fast, Cristalle. But mine seems to count the prims fine -- I'm just wondering, how can the tenant count them? Can they use their hippo box or server somehow, or can they query the land parcel in some other way?

Version 4 allows the tenants to check prim counts themselves with the status button. However, I have not installed the full v4 release yet - I'm still at v4 beta 2. I found that it only works when I'm online. But then, all my land is group owned, so that may be part of the problem. I don't know for sure.

The tenant only needs to be standing on the rented land and then pick World > About Land > Objects tab.

That shows all the stats regarding parcel usage (altogether and per-user) you'll likely need to know.

Every single tenant that I have instructed to do that tells me that they can't see the numbers when they try to refresh the list of users. I have no idea why.

if the tenant wants a quick way to see how many prims they have used, do it the old fashioned way hehe

go to edit mode, click and hold left mouse button and drag the selection box around their prim items (all of them) and then look at the total count of prims

be sure to have select only my objects turned on, in the view or tools menu (forget which it is)

I think they need to have permission to do that, not just anyone can see the object list on any land

It's group owned land, and they are part of the group. And I enabled the power for them to toggle the about land tabs. I could see the numbers in another group I was in, but then I was also listed as an officer. Anyhow, I just go through the same motions. I ask them to try to click the boxes when I'm online.

must be something in the officer permissions that are not on the tenant permission

Okay, it's correct that tenants cannot use the "About Land" like the owner can, unless you change their permissions.

I just upgraded to version 4.0 of the Hippo system, and the tenant gets their prim count in chat with one touch of their rental box! Thanks for letting me know about that Cristalle.

Unfortunately, it doesn't correctly count them if the renter actually presses "prim count." For example, it said "0 used, 200 left" when he had gone over his limit with 201. They just need to hit "ignore" and read what the box says in chat.

I just explained this in my new note cards that the tenants get, so i'm not going to worry about the descrepancy, unless someone knows how to fix that.

They can try to click it twice when you are online.

There is another way around this, if you do not stack your units vertically. If each rental is on its own parcel, you can instruct the box to either ignore your prims or subtract a certain amount of prims. It'll give an answer that is liveable, I think. I will probably get around to doing the full v4 installation this weekend.

Cristalle,

My hotel is 10 floors high, so they're definitely sharing parcels.

But the box clearly tells the tenant their prim count, and differentiates them from mine, and the other tenants' prims in that parcel. It works fine when I'm not online. I'm practicing this with my alt as a fake tenant, (so I am not online when he counts them). There is a real tenant on the floor above him, and it's working for him too.

Woo, I hope that works when I install the full version 4 :)
