No kididing.. I thought it was quite funny. People who think they are or should be offended by that should go back and analyze exactly what it is they're seeing in it that should be offensive. Alien...no, jumpsuit..no, illegal alien.. no, green card.. no, all together.. nope, because it doesn't refer to anything that can be pinned on any one segment. If anything it pokes fun at the USs immigration and border policies, which IMO NEED to be laughed at.

Well, I guess the issue is WHOM we are laughing at. Laughing at ourselves is better than just fine: it's healthy. But who is the target here? If the laughter is directed at immigrants, it is exclusionary, and not a laugh at "ourselves" at all, but a means of mindlessly inflating our sense of self-worth by demeaning those on the "outside."

Honestly, I don't find the costume itself offensive, and I don't take it as a given that it is intended as an attack on immigrants. As I said, I can see using this to make fun of the paranoia surrounding immigration (as a satirical representation of the more extremist forms of xenophobia that SEE foreigners almost as unhuman), but I can certainly also see it being used in less palatable and possibly racist ways.

In any case, the fuss over it IS ridiculous. I would give shit to someone who was using it to make a racist point, but the costume itself is too ambiguous (I think, unless someone can demonstrate differently) to be the target of a ban.

(There, that wasn't TOO duct-tape worthy, was it?
