Dear all,
i am doing a study on secondlife and would like to know the reasons as to why people decided to join and become part of Second life. It would really help me if you could share your reasons.

Seriously....do a search on "survey" or "study". We've answered these questions SO many times.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

There was no personal reason to join, I was simply... curious (and bored)

but, neither the prep nor the ships happened.

It's a bit like asking what personal reasons one has for doing a survey!

Seriously, though - most of us came here because we heard about SL somewhere, took a look, liked what we saw, or at least its potential, and stayed.

Because I like doing surveys in forums!

We never got asked that in Everquest.. they just assumed we were all nuts.

oh and my real resons, no levels, no killing 53000 rats to get a new sword with 20 more hit points on it, no grinding and incredible charater customization is what atracted me.

What made me stay is all thw wonderful people I have met in SL.

Someone told me you can build stuff, and learn to write scripts to make stuff do things!

I'm feeling talkative so I'll share -- have said it before in a dozen other similar threads anyhow ;)

I have Prosopagnosia (aka Face Blindness). This makes it very difficult to manage in a lot of social ways, because it takes me a very very long time to get to the point where I can recognize someone -- and even when I know people well, there's always a chance I won't recognize them if encountering them in a strange place.

A friend and fellow sufferer of prosopagnosia told me about Second Life, where you can interact with people and everyone always has their name floating over their head.

So suddenly, I don't have to worry about inadvertantly insulting or snubbing my new friends, and it doesn't matter if they change their hairstyle (or hair, or skin colour, or gender, or species!) because their name is always floating where I can see it.

Once I got here, I also discovered the creative aspects (building, scripting, etc) and between the social stuff and the creative stuff, I was hooked.

The reasons for joining are not that complicated and personal in most cases, I think. The reasons for staying here are another thing altogether, though. ;)
