Prim Babies Oh My!

I just got a note card from a well known animal manufacturer whose name starts with a "Z", raving about their new prim baby product. I'm flabbergasted to say the least with the qualities of this product:

"ULTIMATE HUMAN BABY
- Contains full body AO for men and women
- Crawls, follows and sits
- Breastfeeds and bottlefeeds
- Fully animated movements
- Sleeps & plays in crib
- Makes a variety of sounds but can be quieted
- Includes a hat, rabbit ears, pacifier, bow and headband
- Plays peek-a-boo and blows kisses on command
- Can have blue, brown, green or closed eyes
- Comes with 4 pajamas, 4 t-shirts, and a diaper
- Comes with a baby piano and teddy bear and plays with toys
- Has AI capabilities
- Includes a breastfeeding bra
- Includes additional holding baby with limited capabilities for partner
- Can be rezzed on land or carried anywhere in SL"

There was NO picture of the baby attached, which I found unusual since they always send along a photo of their new products (actually, I was kind of happy about that as these things kind of freak me out).

Personally, I'm NEVER going to purchase this item, as I have my own feelings about this type of roleplay, however, having said that, this seems like an amazing feat of scripting which they have accomplished.

The AI feature alone has me curious

I got the same message today as well. I was amazed and annoyed at the same time. Amazed for the AI effects (although the LAST thing I want in SL is a prim baby), but annoyed because some time last year I spoke personally to the creator to see if she was going to introduce a particular dog breed I really like. (VKC does not carry it or I would purchase it there.)

The designer assured me she would but neglected the main color of this particular breed. (It was to be in a carry version as well.) I re-contacted her, said I was thrilled about the new breed, but did she have plans to make the other "main" color. She said yes. I eagerly awaited its arrival and since that time every living thing under the sun has been released *except* the dog in the particular color. That was over a year ago and it hasn't happened. :(

That's too bad. And now they go and make "human" babies instead of concentrating on what they are best at. I know they are fantastic at creating extremely realistic animals. I have one of their dogs and I have an avatar of a cat that when people saw photos of me in it, have thought it was a real cat. I'm not quite sure why they felt the need to expand into this particular market although I'm aware that there is a very large segment of SL's population that does this type of roleplay, but certainly there are more people who are purchasing pets than babies (at least, I see that).

Obviously I have no idea what kind of studies the creator did to establish if this was going to sell or not. Maybe it has something to do with the new way SL is going, more family friendly, or whatever? All I know is it creeps me out somewhat even though I'm fascinated as the same time.

I'll buy one if I can torture it & make its life hell to the point of being the FIRST SL serial killer!!! :p

If I want kids, I'll have one in RL. I learned my lesson in The Sims, trying to kill a baby with exploding Yard Gnomes.

I am reading something called Death Match that I suspect the killer will turn out to be an AI - the concept of prim babies - creepy enough on its own- but whatever i am sure i creep some people out myself :) - with AI capabilities- god think about it in the whole spectrum of grandiose scifi- what if the became self aware- can u imagine--

I went and had a look, even though I'm not in the market for a baby. The displays are static, so I didn't get to see how the scripting worked.

Wonder how long it will be before I see someone out and about with one inworld.

Looks as though they used one photo of one actual child.

I'm trying to imagine how disturbing that will be for the child (one hopes he/she won't see it until he/she reaches some age of stability and reason....)

Also...love the idea that it's a PET-maker who's developed these. Nice to encourage people to think of an infant as a 'fun accessory'.... :O

I was thinking that too -- but isn't that how the RL celebs handle that now anyway? ;-)

Me, I'm one of them SL kids who has far better AI capabilities than they coulda programmed in. :-D

My first thought was: if this is gonna be Ghosty's offspring she had best be VERY thankful she wont' have to deilver it in the traditional way!

... kid gonna have one whopping cranium.

Very realistic, except...they are all WHITE. What about the Black, Hispanic, and Asian families?

Prim babies are not something I care for at all (except for Sarah Nerd's two-headed one) but if you are going to make them, at least have them represent the full spectrum of humanity.

If the proposed limits on scripts come in I cant see too many families of these around...not unless theyre going to be left on open wasteland....

certainly not in a script rocked crib or script illuminated nursery...

These things will be dumped - abandoned - in the bottom of the inventory along with that third sex bed you'll wish you never used..

(at least not without a cyber contraceptive)

(I must admit however it was funny going to a S/L wedding where the bride's baby passed wind from either end throughout the entire ceremony.....)

I got one and they are amazing. Its the first realistic baby I have seen in SL. They come with toys they automatically go to and play with while crawling around. I really like the babies.
