Keep the language mature and ask away. If it's too much it will be locked.

This is not the place to get jollies and inquire about people's fantasies, if that is what you mean. But if you have a question about how it works in SL, that would be appropriate.

I thought it was the "Adult" place.
But saying that there are people who come here who are at work, and LL has
policy on keeping things PG in public spaces but sometimes um people skirt around things
and don't seem to get busted by mods here.
Points down to the Penis thread with the silhouette image of Woman with a penis posted there as example of that.

Since it seems Oxy decided not to follow up with the question ....

Try searching for "The Forum" or "Ds Sanctuary" in world.
Just don't confuse "The Forum" with "The Forum Cartel". Two totally different things there.

I don't think it's what you talk about here, so much as 'how' you talk about it.

For instance, advertising escort services wouldn't go over well, but discussing the effect of escort services on the grid's economy would be fine.

Beyond that, there's nothing other than the barriers of low class and poor taste to stop you from saying pretty much anything. Eventually a moderator will pick it up and move or delete it, but if you are unlucky a disgusting or tasteless comment will stay for an entire weekend.

Remember it's not what we think we project, but what we can't help revealing, that defines our characters. I tend not to open threads I don't want to read at all. I've never even Once opened the 'ignore and let this one die' thread. Probably all fun and good times in there, but I just didn't feel like getting into it so I skip it.

The hours saved by not getting into that saved me probably 3-4 hours of sleep. And as we can't 'unsee' anything no matter how hard we try, I simply don't go into yucky threads if I get a bad vibe from the thread title. That way everyone goes home happy. I don't complain or have reason to, and the other people can go do their thing in peace.

If you do want to get more explicit than is comfortable for the PG official forums, there is a very active BDSM discussion forum over at SLUniverse.com. I don't participate in it so I don't know what all they talk about, but knowing the people over there I'd expect the discussion to be very frank and as naughty as you please.

Didja check the forum guidelines? It's the "GUIDELINES" thing right at the top of the forum screen. Of course, it isn't always clear there, but you'll find a link to the Second Life Community Standards on that page. Of particular note woudl be...

From: someone
Global Standards, Local Ratings
All areas of Second Life, including the www.secondlife.com website and the Second Life Forums, adhere to the same Community Standards. Locations within Second Life are noted as Safe or Unsafe and rated Mature (M) or non-Mature (PG), and behavior must conform to the local ratings. Any unrated area of Second Life or the Second Life website should be considered non-Mature (PG).

So this would be considered a "PG" area.

Anyway, ya... try the SLUniverse forums for someting more like what you want. :-)

Desmond, the Undead Thread is a mostly friendly place- nothing to worry about and everyone plays nice together or gets thoroughly bashed by one and all until they straighten out at which point it just goes back to being Family. I am sure you would not mind it. Drop in any time :)

If you wish to discuss general D/s practices in Second Life, there is actually a BDSM Interest Group on the third-party Second Life forum, SLUniverse.

1. Go sign up at SLUniverse: www.sluniverse.com
2. On the Forums tab, scroll down to Miscellaneous > Social Groups > BDSM Interest Group.

Please note that some posts and pictures in the group are NSFW (not safe for work), although people are often careful about mentioning this in the subject lines.

It seems like it is hard to find anyone in the BDSM community who will educate. I have had questions about it and gotten little response or help. Some communities are like that, they seem to expect people to just know things.

If your questions are specific to how huds work, that may be different.
I do know from experience that the bdsm huds are kind of akward to use sometimes.

There are plenty of online resources for RL, which do apply just as well in SL, for general information. There is obviously SL specific information, but that can generally be learned by "doing." ;)

Well the thing is, I have searched online and one tends to get overwhelmed by info, and tons of invalids or misinformation.
My experience is that it is still easier to talk to a human about it, one who will cut to the chase.

Plus with forums, I know the "community" I am in, we tend to get real testy with people fi they ask something that we percieve as stupid or offensive, even if the asker doesn't have any idea.

I would like to know more about bdsm but wading thru tons of google stuff is just aggrivating.

I hate to say this, but if it's worthwhile to you, you'd wade through it if you had to.

I don't know, but I tend to believe you about the lack of community groups that educate the way you want. Your better bet might be to try to meet someone who's willing to teach. They're out there.

Several BDSM sims run classes or discussion groups, many of them aimed at those with little experience or knowledge. Keep an eye on the Education and Discussion sections of Events tab in Search.

We have a pretty good group over at SLU, many people with lots of experiance with bdsm in both RL and SL.

Just dont expect to find a forum full of "porn" it tends to be one that waffles between serious issues related to RL and or SL bdsm to comments on the size of Ned's cigar he instists on smoking during scenes.

Oh, snap! I should have mentioned this before.
There is the "Restrained Life viewer" to add a little something extra if you care to use it. Marine does a fantastic job but I'll let you google the download rather than me linking it because the site is not safe for work at all.

My own blanket opinion is: if you and your partner(s) agree to it, then you are doing it right.

That said, you will have a hard time finding The BDSM community in SL but you can't swing a leash without hitting a subbie or slave. There are so many different communities with different ideals it is impossible to say which one is the best one. Hell, we can't even agree if DS is part of BDSM so why should we agree that there is any one right way to perticapate?

This is not always true, Desmond.
