The name of my store...jojo's Folly...came about because at the time i was doing alot of interior design for folks and they kept encouraging me to open a shop. I thought they were nuts...i couldnt imagine myself with a store in SL. So, i called it jojo's Folly....That also made it possible for me to offer whatever i wanted for merchandise while i was learning and growing.

I also do new biz and marketing consulting and really never had a name for it. So, recently i have named that biz Synergy. I like how it sounds and the definition seems to fit what i do.

ConductorX is a secret... I only let my closest confidants know about.

No really... I remember reading about the discovery of Pluto as a kid. It was called the search for planet X. I am also aware of of Super Conductors that can handle huge amounts of electricity and at higher speed than standard conductors such as silver or gold. When I was trying to select a name for my web hosting business I thought there must be an unknown Conductor. A material that is still faster and more effeicent than any other but is still unknown. Hence the name ConductorX. That is the name of my RL web hosting business and my RL racing team is a "division" of CX Industries.

I picked Industries because I am into so many different activities both RL and SL. If you ever watch Myth Busters those two guys own M5-Industries a motion picture special effects business. They do everything just like me.

I am not incorporated or registered. Some day there may really be a "CX Industries".

There is currently a conductorx.com , .org and . net

No content right now.

"CX" (industrial might)

I decided that since there is ------animations in assorted name formats, I should have to be Ll-animations.

Now, how many people are going to be able even to attempt to pronounce that name correctly?

Talon Faire - SL gave me Talon- I have been Amaranthim since time immemorial - well, ok- since I came on line. Faire has this exotic sound to it- the spelling looks rather Renaissance Fair kind of thing. Really has nothing to do with my style of clothing which is overall sexy-formal. I guess I just liked the look of it. And Rha made me that beautiful logo:

That just rocks :) so- hopefully one day it will be recognized SL wide. For now, I find it pleases me and that is enough.

I was playing around with various phonetic combinations which would evoke a connection to my name, and ended up with the "Trosca" name, which is pronounceable without being too contrived (as many deliberately pronounceable acronyms can be), and to me has a sort of classical Greek sound, which I like.
I sometimes differentiate between the "Trosca Digital" and the "Trosca Design" lines (and use different fonts for each), depending on whether it's primarily script functionality or prim modelling, or use the complete "Trosca Digital & Design".

FloraPrims. I wanted a one word name that let folks know that I make flowers. I was also hoping to emphasize the fact that most of my flowers are 3D shapes, not alpha transparencies. So I took a bunch of flowery words and mixed em up with SL jargon and picked the one I liked best. A friend once asked my why I didn't use 'Primrose' :)

Wow, ideas are all over the map! =) Definately gotta say that our own names have alot to do with it though.

Hmm.. Hehe, Vlad - I would have asked the same! Though then people may thing you sell more Roses than anything.

I love these shop names. Funny, unique, and definately perfect! Makes it even more fun to just 'get' that perfect brand name.

How is it that you came about the name you use for your brand? Your clothing, hair, accessories, etc? Was it a random phrase/name that just stuck, or did you spend endless hours tracking down that perfect catch phrase? Do you go simple and just use your name or part of it, perhaps a nickname someone gave you awhile ago? Or maybe you came up with a word totally unique.

In any case - How DID you get that name?

..

For me, I currently use Sakura "Cherry Blossom" in tribute to the SIM I work in. Looking for something else, though, as that doesn't quite fit everything I will design. Having a rather tough time on deciding a new name, though.

I came up with GLOWBOX DESIGNS in a pretty interesting way. I've been 3d modeling for quite some time, and about 5 years ago I was fooling around in 3d Studio Max, playing with radiosity (global illumination). I did a test by creating a box, making it green, turning on self-illumination, and activating radiosity.

The final render looked so cool, the phrase 'glowbox' came to my head. I felt the name was catchy. I thought the image would make a strong logo...simple, interesting, recognizable, and stand outish. I went with it...and the name stuck for my virtual design firm:

GLOWBOX DESIGNS

It's hard to tell from this little image, but the glow radiating off the box is accurate light bounce and radiosity calculations.

The first thing I ever sold in SL was a painting - I was an artist for a few years, before I got tired of it, and I have a small catalogue of paintings I've done, so I scanned them in and made fames etc and it was fun for a bit. I even had a little in-world gallery for a while. But then I was bored and depressed and learned scripting, animations, and building, in order to make a gallows and hang my avatar. That attracted a lot of attention, me just hanging out in front of my house. And I had so much fun making it, I started on other things...impaling spikes and guillotines and whatnot.

So --- put two and two together, throw my name in it, and I got "Atashi's Art and Oddities Shop". Modern art and execution machines go together like pb and j, after all. ;)

I then got into vehicles, gadgets, and so on. Eventually I realized people really liked my vehicles, and recently decided they needed to spin off into their own brand. My shop is on Waikiti island in Waikiti estate, so the vehicle brand became "Waikiti Motor Works".

My SL company/brand originally started out in 2004 as Second Skin because the original product I sold was layered within the default SL skin. I also liked the double 'S' as a starting point for the logo design. Once I established a RL web presence in 2005 I changed it to Second Skin Labs because of the experimental/custom side of the business, and because Second Skin returned too many hits from other establishments/companies including a goth band, a prosthetics company, a wet suit manufacturer, and a half dozen RL tattoo parlors. There's also a tattoo establishment in SL that started using Second Skin Tattoo (some time in 2006, I think).

The intials GX™ were also applied to my skin brand in 2005 to differentiate it from the previous skins I produced before I offered custom makeovers. The GX™ stands for "Generalized Xponent". "Xponent" was my previous brand of custom skin makeup using exponential texture combinations. GX™ has been my answer to what I had previously hoped LL would solve with generalized texture layers.

My "product" is art, specifially fractal art. My brand name is Chaos Cat - Chaos because fractals are kind of chaotic-seeming (even though they're not, at all, really) and Cat because I'm a neko.

I occasionally wish I'd chosen a more evocative name than "Madhu's Cafe" for my cafe. But when I started it, that's just what it was - Madhu's Cafe. I had no idea whether other people would enjoy it and didn't really have a vision or a plan that necessitated coming up with a particular name.

If I were coming in now with a new business that I was sure I wanted to make a go of, I'd probably try to come up with a name that was evocative of what I wanted the place to be. I don't know what that would be, but it probably wouldn't just be my own avatar name.

RBZ Design - I racked my brain to think of a catchy name but couldn't. My partner said to use my initials but that didn't sound right either. Then I added his last initial and it sounded kind of catchy so I used it.

Yeah anything with the words 'penis emporium' has gotta be a winner.

I've been in some places that should use that moniker.
