I've always realized that SL is the wild west but is the unstable griefer filled environment the best that we should come to expect or should we keep our expectations and our hopes high with the hope (so far unfulfilled) that LL will actually fix fundamental issues with this platform to actually make it viable.

Griefers aren't going to destroy SL--they may be the cockroaches left around if LL left the platform, and never fixed issues...but I don't see a post-apocalyptic future for SL...

Non-griefers (the educated ones) have just as much power to halt griefers, as the griefers have to annoy or hack us.

Plus, the ban ability is almost a as quick as Doc Holiday and his six shooter.

I don't think SL is going anywhere but up...I have faith. I find myself enjoying it more and more, and I continually see more and more inspiring content, and intelligent design.

And citizens are spending money, that's for sure--if my little'o shop is making profit, then I can only imagine what the massive, professional quality content creators are making--which all translates to a flourishing economy.

Sl isn't the only place you will find grifers, and they don't bother me half as much as posts (and I'm not pointing at the OP) about how horrid the platform is, etc.

I'm never bothered by griefers...only a handful of times in over three years here. I think it all depends on the company someone keeps, and the sims they frequent.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

It's not Griefer Filled. I live next door to a +20k traffic place and there's maybe 1 person a month that actually qualifies as a griefer.

Fix fundamental issues? Like the physics stuff? See all the Havok4 blogs. Like getting a waaaaay-faster scripting VM? See all the MONO blogs. Or maybe you mean the ad farming problem? Or that the standard viewer looks sorta "welcome to the 80s"? Or maybe you mean all the complaints we get here in the forums about people being ripped off by banks/casinos..

I agree with this. The post sounds like it's all gloom and doom when it comes to griefers, but I don't see that at all. I've been here for a year and 5 days. I've been caged once and pushed out of my shop by someone once. That's it. I've never been orbited, verbally abused, threatened, harassed or extorted into buying ugly ad land.

I lived on the same parcel for almost my whole time in SL, until I recently sold and tiered up by moving to one of the newest Sims. When my husband and I first moved to our last parcel, there was no one else really there. The entire sim was gradually inhabited, parcel by parcel, and it was always nice and peaceful there. Nothing terribly ugly or horrible. I'm hoping the new sim we've moved into will be the same way since almost the entire sim full of pacels is still for sale. Between my husband and I, our plots take up a 1/4 of it, so it won't be hard to stay away from anything that would be ugly. I certainly don't let things like that ruin my SL, even if they do happen.

The instability can be a pain sometimes, but other times everything works fine. A lot of my problems are my computer....I need a new one. I also think that LL is actively working on the platform and communicating better with residents.

My L$2.

Griefers?
02-27-2008 12:38
Griefers are the most overrated thing in Sl...
Im in SL for over a year now and ok, sometimes somebody wears a particle emitter or make fun by shooting at people in a sandbox. And once or twice I experienced someone crashing a sim for fun.
That might be annoying, but nothing more.

OMG, WORD!

I'm on that boat. Although a beast in its time, my computer is over the hill now. I get around 3-7 FPS at all times. Strange how I can run Max and PS at the same time, and it works great...but SL creeps around like a gimp in an ice storm (don't ask).

I still believe LL will be the biggest contributor to any downfall of SL, by way of their inconsistent business models. If they would just show some focus, foresight and common sense, I think most residents will follow along whatever course they decide to set SL on.

Word, Back! I have the exact same thing going on. Unfortunately, every time I think I'm able to get a new one, something else pops up and I need the money for that. But, someday, I vow I WILL get a new computer. And nothing, not no one, not no how, will stop me.

Same with me...life tends to take my checks before I can even think about spending them on luxury items.

You know, I've gotten so desperate before, I've thought of getting a sweet system, and paying monthly's on it. You can get a pretty good rig for like $50 a month. If I do this, it will be from Falcon Northwest...they make the best computers me thinks.

Although, it would be stupid to always pay the minimum...that will take forever...I would pay over the minimum for sure. I could handle that.

Oddly enough, I know exactly what Michael means by that. Mine is the same way sometimes. ...lol

I've thought of that. However, youthful credit card transgressions means I have less than stellar credit. However, I could probably qualify. I just like buying it outright. I hate that monthly bill thing hanging over my head. Tier is bad enough!...lol

Nice to see cooler heads prevailing. I know it's trendy to scream your head off and run around pretending the world's going to explode, but most of it works and people seem to stick around.

Can't answer the question, because it doesn't seem to be about the SL that I use. In 15 months I've been griefed perhaps half-a-dozen times - caged twice (the first time I didn't even realise it was meant to be annoying), orbited once, had a couple of rude visitors to my land, and had a megaprim dropped on the sim I'm in and the surrounding ones. Only the last was really annoying enough to AR, and that was only after I stopped laughing at the hills and houses rising out of a sea of plywood.

However, a lot depends on your attitude - we get a lot of casual visitors wandering through our land and our home, many people would see them as griefers because they would feel their privacy was being invaded, we welcome them so long as they're civil and well behaved.

The question puts two different things together. Even in those places where griefing is common, it's not a problem with the platform, it's a problem with people.

The instability and lag is sometimes annoying, but it is slowly getting better for me, especially when you compare how well it runs now with 60,000 on to how it was when i first got here with 20,000 on.

Question is meaningless, I don't see any "fundamental" issues, just a few minor irritations most of the time.
