Class 7 Sim

Hi,

I received today the folowing IM from somebody who was selling his land:
"we hope that once we get our own sim which will be class 7 which will be even faster then this that many of you will return to us."

Then i asked what a class7 server is. I got the following answer:
xxxx: Its the new ones way faster on all counts
xxxx: yer it;s a dedicated server same as this but faster
xxxx: should be floating around i would have thoght there are some sims that already have them on here

Is this bullshit or are those class7 servers coming / allready available ?

Are there class 6 servers?

Never heard of a Class 7 Sim, I try to follow the hardware developments pretty closely. LL also has been pretty good about announcing hardware upgrades (and the attendant price increases!!).

And I think we still need to move through Class 6, first, or did I miss something?

Buy the Brooklyn Bridge or a Class 7 sim - decisions, decisions.

Is a class 1,2,3, 4 or 5 even a part number when you order a server or is it a Linden Labs Label?
If it was a part number then I guess there would be class 7's on the market, but LL would still be trialling them and they'd be expensive.
On a sidenote why aren't class 5's any bigger in sim size than class 3's other than meshing with the grid issues, Why can't sims be 1024x1024 instead of 256x256?
Is it related to 64 bit thing, are HiPi and others also using 256x256 as some sort of standard?
Seeing hard drives and processors have advanced a lot since 2004, I imabine latest hardware is bigger and faster

Well class 3's struggle when getting full, especially when full = lots of AV's with scripted items.

Class 5's are a lot smoother but certainly not good enough to envisage larger sims. They're more like the performance we'd want out of a sim rather than having an excess of performance.

Also the changes in class havn't allways been 100% performance, there's isn't a lot to choose performance wise between 4's and 5's but 5's are better for LL as they use lower power, more modern processors.

According to the knowledge base it is a floating point error/collision mesh constraint, nothing to do with raw processing power. (So in that case it would be related to the "64 bit thing" and any other factor which effects floating point error, like whether they used single or double precision, etc.).

I know the sim my store is on was "switched to a class 4 server" and that LL said "there is a bug for class 4 servers" which is why we crash every 30 minutes and can't walk.

This reminds me of when suntan lotion companies started touting SPF 30 and SPF 45. My dad's a dermatologist and he said anything above SPF 15 is marketing bullsh*t.

Maybe it's time to start selling anti-lag paste again!

i am aware of this type of sim class i am following it up to see if this is correct or it may be class 6 i may have got mistaken with they are supposed to be the lastest class servers

that are curently available i am in contact with ll to see if this is true but i was meally going on what i was told by some sim users that say they are using these classes

if it is a class 6 then i am sorry for in in correction of the numbers

oops seems this is not the person i was talking to but meally the same surname but my following above statement i am following up as it;s beleived that there are these superfaster servers available it may well be the class 6 which i beleive ther are some available now but a tad pricey as sombody has stated can anyone besides hear say varify this as we all know what linden are like takes agaes for replys lol

Currently the best class of server is class 5. If there is a class 6 available, LL certainly hasn't told the general population about it. I would be surprised if there were, given the relatively short time that Class 5s have been available. But it's not out of the realm of possibility.

Class 5 is the best server that LL offers. If anything better existed, Linden Lab wouldn't hesitate to advertize it heavily and try to get every sim owner to upgrade... for a hefty fee.

You have access to a class 6 or class 7 server, you say? Can you also get me the deed to the Golden Gate Bridge, and the Tower of London? Sorry. The BS meter is pegged at that claim.

hmm not certain where you got the inpression by my statement that i have access to a class 6 or 7 if i did please clarify i was meally going on what others have said like many of us in times we believe what others say not all of the time but it happens and you go on that prosumption that these things are out there like many things that you hear on sl it can be true or false many rumours have floated about hidden sims on sl that are not in anyway marked or we cannot in anway gain access to and used by goverment world systems and the millitary is this true ? answer to that is who knows linden is an organisation watching peoples baviour in a virtual enviroment and distributing that information to organisations on peoples habits is this true? who can tell the title does say labs even though that has a wide varity of choices but think about linden they are an advancing organisation and fingers are in every pie who knows if there is these higher classes running maybe there are class 6-7-8-9 ect ect do they have to tell you everything people already moan now about issues with sims ect ect so they may not want to distribute these higher classes yet maybe they are on test being tried by lindens themselves they are always not alot of them around inland where do they go ?

but i'll wait and see what linden say on the matter if it's clerly un-true which by the responces and unwarrented scarcasm by some seem very unlitly then fair do's that person who told that information is not to be trusted on reliable information or thought it was clever.

i am certain yu will come back with some other form of rubbish but think about what i have said there must be times in sl that people have told you things that you have believed and later found not to be true it happens
