I have had SL installed for 3 years, and have never had this problem. But, what seems to happen is I go to log in, it takes quite a bit longer then it use to. and it gets to about 60-70% and crashes. always on the "Loading World" part.

there are No signs as to why this is happening... i've restarted my system... i've reinstalled SL, twice... and this problem persists. any ideas?

Try logging onto a different sim. If you open Preferences, click on the General tab, and ensure "Show start location on login screen" is checked, you should be able to type in the name of a sim in the relevant field on the login page. You must know the full name of a sim for this to work, but this does help bypass problems logging in when one's home sim is crashed.

Defrag? What is that? :p

One nice thing about the ext3 filesystem ;)

To clear the Cache, you go to Edit/Preferences/Network. There'll be a little checkbox to clear the cache and you'll need to restart the client.

Also, by crashes, what kind of crashes are you experiencing? Are there any errors or maybe graphical glitches you're noticing before it dies?

I cleared the Cache file and the crashed stilled occured.

there are no signs as to why this is happening.

I'll try the Defrag, though i don't see how that'll help.

But at this point nothing else seems to make sense >.>

What about deleting the SL folder in app settings and doing a full reinstall of SL.

Also, have you updated your video drivers? Sometimes, out of date ones can cause some of the most irritating and irrational crashes. Or if you did recently update them, try rolling them back.

A reinstall doesn't affect the files Brianna was talking about.

Also, how about making sure no A/V is interfering, and in any event resetting router/modem?

Jup, go looking for your cache folder.

It is hidden, but your network prefferences points to it.

But... I just saw this VWR-13653. Where it is mentioned that resent crash reports show it to be router/local network / firewall issues.
So try restarting all that sort of stuff.

Hope that helps =)

Edit :
something like c: windows/*your login name/ application data/ secondlife

different OSes vary I am sure

well, where are those files?

For Windows XP:
c:\Documents and Settings\[your user name]\Application Data\SecondLife\

For Windows Vista/7:
c:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife\

For Linux:
~/.secondlife

No idea for Macs. I suspect it is a hidden folder in your home directory just like in Linux.

On XP they are in My Comp > Local Drive > Documents and Settings > user > Application Data (hidden folder) > SecondLife - then it's the settings.xml document.

Incidentally it's where chatlogs are, so don't just fling the whole lot in the bin without thinking.

Vista it's Computer > (local drive) > Users > (Username) > Appdata> Roaming > Secondlife.

Okay.... Maybe if you copy/paste your logfile into a reply here, we might be able to figure out what is going on. You can find your logfile by going into the afformentioned SecondLife directory, then - from in there, open the logs directory, and open up secondlife.log

System specs are always in order in a thread of this nature.

If there is an error message, the exact text of it couldn't hurt.

One could try some of the various alternate viewers.

If you have Windows Update turned on it might have replaced a working driver with a bad one. It does that from time to time.

Well... this is Crap... Now i can't even get the login screen to come up.

As for a Logfile, i can't even locate such a thing. i even did a system search... apparently i don't have one >.>

And i wish i had a Crash error comeing up, then i might be able to fix this myself, but thats just it... it simply Crashes... no error pops up.

And now, as i just said, i can't even get to the login screen....

We're getting these errors a bit atm. How are you connected to the Internet? Router? Wireless?

The last time I had issues where SL was "just crashing" it turned out to be heat related issues due to clogged vents and internal dust. SL was the only program that pushed the computer to the point it would heat up and fail.

I'm going to full extream here, i believe a system reformat is in order sense nothing else seems to be effecting it.

thanks for all the help... you'll hear from me if Reformating doesnt work.
