Some of the other old, old sims can be found here..

http://secondlife.wikia.com/wiki/San_Francisco_Sims

Some have links with more info about them, some don't. Da Boom, in addition to being the first sim on the grid, is worth a look at to see Rockwell's Starax collection. He's got some pieces I haven't seen anywhere else.

My favorite random-tour is hot air ballooning along the coasts of the old continents. That or following the roads (or rivers or SLRR) of the old northern mainland continent.

The bug where you get logged out on TP or crossing a sim line has sorta beaten the explorer out of me, though. :(

"The Man" statue and Governor Linden's mansion are, I believe, the oldest builds. The former came from the original alpha grid, and the latter, while alpha itself, also has some "historical" items in the basement.

http://secondlife.wikia.com/wiki/Governor%27s_Mansion

Edit: Also, do check out the color and SF sims. Particularly some of the stuff in Green, and the GSLR & cathedral in Mocha. Lots of neat old stuff on that mainland!

Caletta, which is definitely cool, isn't that old, relatively speaking. It's on the second continent. The SF sims, the color sims, and much of the rest of Sansara is older.

But still, visit Calleta, an hang out with the hobos.

If you go to YadNi's Junk Yard, there are some maps on the wall showing the early growth of the SL mainland.

The SF sims, the color sims, and

(When Mari says "color sims" she means the sims up in the northwest corner of the continent of Sansara, which is the only continent with a major snowy region, and is the middle continent of the 3 most western continents. The "color sims" are actually named after colors, e.g. Blue, Brown, Green, etc. It doesn't actually mean that they were the first sims designed in color, as opposed to black & white, which is what I originally assumed!)

The Sci Fi Meuseum in Indigo has been there for almost 4 years. That's almost as old as anything in SL can be. I'm embarrassed to say it hasn't been updated in any significant way in about 3 years or so, since I've been too busy with too many other things. There's lots of unfinished stuff lying around. (I really must get around to fixing the place up some time.)

If you're into SL history though, then it might actually be better for you that it's in such an unfinished, outdated state. You can see what was considered good back in the day. At least 75% of the content is between three and four years old, including the building itself, and almost none of it has been changed since then. It's interesting how what looks so incomplete by today's standards was actually some of the best stuff in all of SL back in the beginning.

Self-loathing art critique aside, from a historical standpoint, it's probably worth noting that the museum was the first build of its kind in SL. Many of its exhibits were firsts in and of themselves. It's got the first full sized replica starships, the first working holodeck, one of the first movie theaters, etc. If you're looking for old, it definitely fits the bill.

_Was_, not _is_.

Rockwell has apparently mostly-moved out of Da Boom and taken his Starax treats with him. That or sold them off.

Once i can check my oldest LMs i can give more sim names..unfortunately most of the old SIMs are..well they're not what they used to be..they've turned into adfarms..or parceled up into condos or small residential 512 plots.

Its good to hear that the sci fi museum is still up in Indigo. I frequented Feuscia quite a bit..it was where Stroker Serpentine used to have Eros Gardens.

The SIM where i worked had a gold nugget saloon on a board walk that was really cool...cant for the life of me remember its name though. I wish I wouldv'e had the forethought to take snap shots back in those days. :(

Oh, wow. Thanks for the link, Sal. That sure brings back memories. I see my big pyramid in Argent, and my old Parthenon in Maroon, first two buildings I ever built. That pyramid was gone by the end of March '04, if I remember correctly. Nice to see that somebody grabbed a pic before it was scrapped.

I can see both of my homes in Clara and DeHaro. Both date back to the summer of 2003. Neither has changed much since. The shot of Gibson was (if I recall correctly) taken during one of the most interesting April Fool's pranks ever.

I like how some of them (Lusk, Kissling) are almost the same as they were then, and others have kept a lot of the same things, but gotten better as advances have come to SL (Rodeo).

Mari
(Who'd love it if Taber still looked like dat, an wishes she could afford some of that land sitting fallow today in Clementina.)
