Oh, and I will add one more reason...

It's good advertising.

People see and remember my posts, and recall what areas I am experienced in, and later contact me to hire for work. A fair percentage of unsolicited terraforming and building jobs that I get approached for are from people who know me from my forum posts.

SL is great for interacting with individuals or groups of individuals, but forums provide a whole community of wisdom (among other things)! :D

Just like any new venture I'm exploring, I start out in that community ignorant, seeking others knowledge and experience. As I gain it, then it's only polite to return the favor to others, after all, that's how community works! ;)

I also subscribe to the learn something new every hour. Which is hard to do if I only expose myself to the same things over and over again. As it says in my profile, "A woman not improving herself endlessly becomes herself."

Forums help me grow. :)

I also naturally enjoy sharing with others, so coming someplace where people seek information is a natural fit?

I sought out the forums in the first instance to find info when I was newish - answers to questions that had probably been asked dozens of times before. The search facility helped a lot and reading threads taught me things I didn't know I needed to know until someone else asked.

After lurking in RA a while it was obvious there was a community here. There were funny threads and interesting discussions and I got to recognise the names of the frequent posters. I found it entertaining - still do.

I'm a bit reserved and not much of a joiner of groups in RL and find that seems to follow me to SL, so I joined the Forum Cartel group to feel more of a part of things. I still hardly ever get around to visiting the Hangout but it's good to be able to say hello now and then, or ask for help or info in the group chat.

Another point is that as a message forum like this isn't happening in real time, it's a way to interact with many more SL folk in more timezones than I'd normally get to chat with inworld.

Sshhhh! They think I'm playing solitaire. I told them you are all my imaginary friends.

They're coming to take me away, aha. They're coming to take me away...

The forums are how I met most of the people I know in SL, either directly, or indirectly.

I get questions answered, keep up with what's happening with friends, learn what the hot topics are for different groups of SL residents (builders, landowners, designers, shoppers, "SL tourists, etc.), and, on occasion, am startled to find out I actually know something to help out another SL'er.

When inworld...friends are often busy doing their own things, so the forums enable me to touch base with them on an almost daily basis. :)

I don't frequent the forums much in the evenings, as that's when I'm inworld.

And....most days...you make me smile (guffaw, even).

Im here to find the meaning of life and world peace and to read the magazines =)

And because while people get upset about stuff sometimes, this one of the more friendly, tolerant and forgiving forums I ever been on.

With no access to sl at work i read the forums at lunchtime, so I can find out the newest gripes and problems and likely grid status for later. I also like to see the ritualised public ribbing some people get when they post ridiculous texts and i smile at the sparkling repartee and banter some folks have when they chat back and forth. So far all my queries and questions, have been answered by kind people who are willing to share their knowledge, sympathy, ingenuity, kindness and time freely for the benefit of those who haven't really got a clue what's going on. Give yourselves a hearty slap on the back.

Uhm, the forums work on my iPod, but SL doesn't.

Also, x2 on determining the grid status here before it shows in my RSS feed.

Because the answers to many a question have been answered in a clear and understandable manner here. I've been driven nuts on occasion trying to find a answer in Knowledge Base.

Yo! Peoples!!!

Well, the regulars might remember that I could only access the forums during working hours so's was in-world in the evenings. I have got to meet and converse with many in the forum, in a lot of things they are one and the same; you meet someone with a question, you try to work it out, you make friends or enemies (no often thankfully!).
Someone pointed out it's easier to find people here .. well, it is like a club, hence the birth of that group .. erm .. are we allowed to name it again? .. I've not been around for a while.

Yes, that's the other thing. I've a new job which prevents forum access now but for a while I'm off work. Hitting a borky login and teleport just now has sent me back to the warm pouch of the official SL forum .. so for a short time folks ... I'm baa-aack!!

I've been doing alotta travelling lately and saw the threads about where people were and it got me to thinking and even a question. If you dont find it worthy of comment then that's ok with me and just let this slowly follow the line down to page 2 But ...

I've forgotten what happens to threads on Page 2.
