From: Clarissa Lowell Ok thanks for explaining it. I thought this was a chat somewhere online that people were being asked for personal info. Websites can even be duped pretty well these days. Thanks though, for being so patient, answering all my questions. My pleasure, glad to help

Well I guess it LL never asked you for any RL info, then you would have no proof you are you if someone else ran off with your account..................

Thanks for all the replies. Can I just make another point. There are three Live Chat options, Billing Live Chat, InWorld Live Chat and OutWorld Live Chat. If I was using Billing Live Chatg then, of course, I'd be prepared to answer whatever security questions they asked but this was OutWorld Live Chat. It is described by Linden's as -
* Outworld Live Chat Our Outworld Support team handles issues with your computer accessing Second Life (software crashes, graphics problems, connection issues). How does that affect the security of my account. In order to access Live Chat someone would already have hacked my account. They would have my password and username, access to my email and money. So I ask again, why do OutWorld Live Chat need my real name?

Perhaps if your software issue was related to you trying an invalid login or you had forgotten your password?
Furthermore I don't beleive that behind the scenes there is any seperation and I think you are only entitled to supoprt if you are paying for a premium account. If you are not the account holder then they have no obligation to give you that support. Therefore establishing if you are the account holder seems reasonable to me.

Gabriele, u can't access Live Chat unless u are logged in to the sl site as a Premium Member. And u can't log in to the site without your password. So you've already in effect verified you have a Premium Account or have successfully hacked into a Premium Account. It just seems unneccesary to ask for real name in Outworld Live Chat, specially before u have explained the problem.

Thats not true - you could be using the cached password on someone elses machine to login to the website and trying to get a password change out of support services. Verifying your identity before giving you support is perfectly reasonable. It is not secure until it covers all the bases possible
