Who's on my land?

I have a 512 sqm plot of land in an out of the way place with a fairly uninteresting house on it with some fairly uninteresting stuff inside it. But I like to call it home. I notice there is a fair amount of traffic on this piece of land - between 8 and 15 people a day. I leave the house open and have locked down the rights on the Options menu so I'm not too worried about mischief, but I'm curious who these people are. Is there any way to tell who visits a plot?

If you would take down that spinning "Free Furry Gorean Blackjack Kiddy Porn" sign at the front of your parcel, people wouldn't be coming by so often.

You don't even need a fancy-dancy security thingy - I have a simple script which scans within a certain distance and keeps a list of visitors it detects. IM me in world and I will send you the script.

Yes, there is indeed a way to tell who visits a plot.

I've sent you one called "Visitor Counter - was reset in 2008".

Drag out to the world and type help and press enter.

You might want to rename the object something shorter, like just Visitor Counter.

It doesn't check to see if they are on your parcel, just checks for folks within 96 meters.

You can edit the script and set the range at the top of the script.

There are undoubtedly fancier ones around for free, maybe even one in the script library. forum.

One word: Noobs. I have a place not far from Ahern, and stray noobs wander in all the time. As long as you keep your land no-build, no-script and no-push, they can't hurt anything.

the advantage of the 'fsacy dancy' security thing is it picks up ONLY what is happening on your parcel... nothing else... regardless of the distance you set it to detect at... so you edont have people showing up on your scans who never actually went on your land ;)

Probably in "about land", that's where I see mine anyway.

That would be traffic.. I don't think traffic tells you how many people have been on your land. Not directly anyway.

No it doesn't tell you how many people have been there, and it would count the time the OP spends on their own parcel.

It won't count her unless she has the land deeded to a group...

Yes, the numbers are on the About Land screen. Had 14 people stop by today. I was only there in wolrd long enought to check this and then logged out didn't TP anywhere.

But either way a traffic of, say, 10, doesn't mean that 10 people stopped by.

About Land does not show you the number of people. It uses some algorithm to show how much time was spent on the land, regardless of who owns it. If you spent about 15 minutes on your land yesterday, that's probably you.

I think what people are saying about the About Land traffic number is that a traffic number of 14 does not mean "14 people came by today." It is an index that is determined by LL based upon a formula that considers both the number of people stopping by and how long they stay.

My cafe typically gets between 15 and 20 visitors a day (determined by the visitor counter script I mentioned above), but the traffic number is usually in the 500-700 range.

Interesting this topic.
I look around SL, I might have TP to a site done what ever I gone there for and walked out onto someones land or maybe house or what ever, not for ill intent. But often the doors are locked, why not lock yours?
Sometimes I got onto land and get ejected.
Other times something just makes it impossible to walk onto it.
Why not do one of these things?

You can get a free visitor detector which will tell you the names of the avatars who visit your land. There is one in the box of "Free useful Stuff" on the East vendor wall at my store in Shona.

Yea I use AHT security and with a simply "say list" command i get a list of vistors. its a simple script. You can even tweak the range..like 10 meters 20--30 etc.
