If you want go to the Commerce Team office hours and protest, I made a little kit which consists of two hastily made t-shirts (full perms) and some special protest popcorn with eating gesture (also full perms).

scheduling difficulties... they have one, I don't (and I think it's preferable for a small group to go, more chance of being heard... and since the usual attendees are know, as long as you can get them to bring your issues/questios for you, there is little point in showing up yourself.

It's like a meeting of the Flat Earth Society - with one yelling 'the end is near!' off in the corner. Like some bizarro cult.
The Linden is forced to be there and pretend to engage the community. When the hour is up they unplug their computer and get back to waiting until 5PM to go home. _____________________

Office hours don't happen during my office hours or even my awake hours.
However, I recently downloaded a sound file of a meeting on third party viewers where the speakers were so goddamn inarticulate and generally annoying to listen to ("ummm ... sooo ... ahhh ... do you ... ahhh ... think ... maybe ... ahhh ... oh!? ... grunt ..." that I had to dump it in the Recyle Bin after fifteen minutes and get on with some rational thinking. The frickin road drill on the street outside was easier on my brain. |

As for why don't I go to office hours - I don't frequent the flogs so I have no idea when and where they are. I have also heard they make extensive use of voice which is as much use to me as a bicycle made of jello Also, I've never been to one that uses voice. Back when voice was new, some Lindens said maybe someday they'd try voice for their office hours, but those of us who can't or won't do voice made enough of a fuss to keep them from doing it, when necessary playing the trump card of needing a transcript so they won't be misquoted. I used to try to go to a lot of them, but I've cut back on all but a few favorites. - I try to get to Jack's because he's the highest ranking Linden with office hours, there are always plenty of current issues with land, and the regular attendees there are often fun. (I must say, though, they used to be more entertaining when the adfarmers attended, accompanied by a certain Libertarian would-be-politician, just for the absurdity.) - I'd go to Andrew and Simon's for hints about server changes and because, as the original developer, Andrew knows more than anybody about the servers and why they are the way they are. (Unfortunately, I can almost never attend.) - When I can, I go to Nyx's because he (and BigPappi, who also attends that one) are doing cool viewer features, which they are sometimes allowed to discuss, vaguely. - I usually go to Blondin's (dreadfully frustrating) Zindra meetings, out of loyalty to the exiles to that continent. I can almost never attend Michael's (for LDPW stuff--I think those will get interesting again, now that the Moles are more or less done with the Linden Homes project), nor Babbage's (for scripting stuff--far too much time being wasted on C#, but occasional hints about upcoming memory limits). When I tried, Qarl's were all sculpties all the time. (I got the impression he was really bored with them but people kept expect him to make them actually work.) I'd guess they're mostly about meshes by now, or will be soon. Torley & Jon & Jeremy & Kate (et al.) are mostly social occasions, with obscure video games and sci fi topics. I like Torley but never have any idea wtf everybody is talking about. God I miss Robin. ![]() |

I like going when I can, I recently attempteted to set the SL domino trail record at Kates Office hour on the sairs of her house, got to 50 or so before we ran out of prims.
(You have to stand them on their ends and set them to physical) ![]() I's cool just to see what other residents think about issues and some people are doing some really cool stuff, most people never see. _____________________

If it weren't for OH, ad farms and 16sqm extortion parcels might still be here. Well, they are still around, but not in abundance like they were before.
I only go to Jack Linden's OH, which is today at 11 PST, and as Qie said, they can be fun. _____________________

Do they still do the "Log In" polls? I haven't seen one in ages. I think about the last we saw was asking us if we wanted a more predictable experience. Then later their justification for Zindra was "the users wanted a more predictable experience" and denied it had any relation to the poll question which used the same words. I think they realized we were not about to buy the denial and stopped the fake polls. _____________________

The real reason I don't go is because sims have limited capacity and lag is NOT fun. It was a sad day when LL stopped using the forums for discussions.. but they really don't want to reach a wider range of participants, to get a better feel for what the residents REALLY want.

I have tried, a few times, to attend a Linden Office Hour.
I spent over an hour of my time, was able to ask MAYBE two questions, and often got no answers, nor even any achnowledgement that I was there. The signal to noise ratio was horrendous, and 99% of what the Lindens themselves said was useless - not authoratative answers, or not answers at all. The majority of what Residents said was not replied to at all, as the Lindens cherry-picked a few easy questions to reply to. In short, I have better uses for my time than to shout at a deaf post, in hopes that it might occasionally answer with something useful. _____________________
Sorry, LL won't let me tell you where I sell my textures and where I offer my services as a sim builder. Ask me in-world.

This may refer to some "special occasion" meetings, such as their infamous "brown bags," but regular weekly Linden office hours aren't announced on the flogs; rather, they're listed at http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Office_hours. Also, I've never been to one that uses voice. Back when voice was new, some Lindens said maybe someday they'd try voice for their office hours, but those of us who can't or won't do voice made enough of a fuss to keep them from doing it, when necessary playing the trump card of needing a transcript so they won't be misquoted. Thus, if LL follows it's normal pattern, they'll be closed "soon." Unfortunately, we have no idea when "soon" is. Heck, the town hall meetings were just as bad. So to was any speech given by any of the major Lindens. _____________________

The limited time range in which they hold their office hours is ridiculous. They will NEVER get a meaningful and broad enough cross section of the resident population to have any issues addressed properly unless they vary the office hours more. They need to fold up their California Gen Y work ethic and start holding regular office hours on weekends and evening hours as well.
