QuestionWhat shall we name the unnamed continent? BackgroundFor further information, please refer to the "Naming the unnamed continent" thread: /327/c5/213526/1.html The Finalists!Emanon - "no name" in reverse, reminiscent of Erewhon Nonnomen - Latin for "no name" Satori - from Buddhism, "a sudden indescribable and uncommunicable inner experience of enlightenment" Steve - it's a pretty name

So I guess Troutland didn't catch on.
OK, I vote for Satori. I like the way it sounds and the meaning appeals to me - it sort of fits right, if that makes any sense.

Guess I'll have to go with satori, because at least its a word i sorta know. I have no clue why the tradition of naming SL continents with made-up multisyllabic vaguely elven names got started. Using bizarre words that cannot be remembered works against the purpose of having a name.
I still think continents should be named with something that relates to their shape or map position. That way, when you LOOK at them, you have a prayer of remembering their name.

Steve - it's a pretty name
Considering that 'Steve' is my RL first name, I take great umbrage at it being referred to as 'pretty'

Yeah, there's nothing wrong with having a pretty name. Heck you could be named Beowulf or something. "Steve" just rolls off the tongue.

From: Alicia Sautereau /me doesn`t see an voting option to name it Pie or Cake Well, I had actually suggested Pie as a name, but it did not get a single vote of support, so it did not make it into the finals. There IS, however, the traditional "I reject your poll options and choose instead to declare my fondness of sweet pastry goodness" pie option. From: Nika Talaj Guess I'll have to go with satori, because at least its a word i sorta know. I have no clue why the tradition of naming SL continents with made-up multisyllabic vaguely elven names got started. To date, there is not a single made-up or elven name. Sansara - Hindu concept, "The sansara, simply put is the world, or used more broadly it relates to the universe, i.e. all that which is material. So the sansara is the stage where the performance of life takes place." This name was one considered by LL before they settled on "Second Life". Heterocera - Taxonomical term for moths. Official name given by LL. Jeogeot - Korean word meaning "that", in reference to a thing that is not close to the speaker or listener. Often translated as "that thing over there". The partially-built continent was composed entirely of sims with Korean place names at the time this name was used on a map by Dyne Talamasca. Nautilus - Common name for a group of marine cephalopods known for their spiral shells. Also the famous fictional submarine in Jules Verne's "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea". Official name given by LL. Corsica - The fourth largest island in the Mediterranean Sea, the birthplace of Napoléon Bonaparte. Official name given by LL. Out of the current options, only Emanon is made up. Even so, its derivation is a sly reference to a famous fictional dystopia rather than anything elven. From: Nika Talaj Oh, lord, Oryx ... care to rephrase? LOL! You actually made me spit on my keyboard!

I voted for Satori if only because it's already being called that somewhere. The truth is, with teleportation I never know where I am anyway. -- KC

From: Gaybot Blessed Pie would be a great name for the new continent. For a new continent maybe..however this continent is of course far from new. I would be happier if it were 'Pi'..as in the 16th letter of the Greek alphabet..or numerical association 3.141592. 'Steve'..oh good lord..you cannot be serious (lol anything but..). Steve means to 'pack or stow away, as carge in a ship's hold (gee I didn't know that..). I'm going with Satori...I'm desperately trying to think of a good reason why though... Of course it did occur to me that we who do not actually live on the 'Un-named Continent' (a truly wonderful name ..coff..coff..sadly ignored by the organiser of the poll)..really are not the people who should be naming this continent (ducks as Ava lobs a kelp in his direction..). Especially if it ends up as 'Steve'.."Hey there..guess what your continent's been called.....? Perre Anatine 'Have you any idea how much damage can be caused by a kelp hitting an LCD screen..its the salt water that does it... "
