Noone said there was O.o, though that would f-ing rock.

This thread is about the fake mirror, the transparent floors, since we can't have a true mirror.

Also mentioned was linden water being used, though it would berather wavy unless everyone specifically set their water to look smooth and glassy.

Ever notice how some people chime into threads like RL having no idea what the conversation is about but throwing in their $0.2 anyway :)

I edited it after a tiny bit cause I realized if only looking at the second page that comment made sense...but still...at least read the OP I say =P

Ok I used a gold marble texture at 40% with high shine. I can't really get the full effect here at work because I'm forced to use an earlier version of Nicholaz. But if anyone is interested; Phoenix Industries 195, 255, 36

I added some plants in the corners. I still need another bar (gonna have to wait till payday) and perhaps a black piano....

That is lovely!

Though I do have to say, I really don't think shiny actually does anything. Still nice to put in case it works for someone though.

Beautiful work ^_^

Oh, the sim is 'Phoenix Industrious' not Industries..so took me a little bit to find ^_^

Another note.. you may want to remove the poseballs XD

Though it leads to some awesome visual 'reflections' of no one being there, I don't think what you want is people sitting under the floor like I am currently =P

Any time ;)

Plus it saves a few prims for you.

Do you think the ceiling texture in the mirror should be lighter? It seemed to jump out at me when I enter the room?

Well I did use a crazy disclaimer :)

my take on it

My wife has had me taking a crack at this for her dance floor, and I went at it like this. After she had everything set up as she wanted it to be I went underneath the area, turned the floors transparant, took a snapshot as well centered as I could manage, then flipped the image and applied it to a prim overlay which I then added transparancy to.

At this point she decided to change a few more things, so i am on hold until she finishes the final final touches, then i will redo the work up to its current point and follow that with an above ground camera shot, of the floor, overlayed with the semi transparant prim, and use this shot to make the final floor texture, thus avoiding the invisaprim shoe heel interaction that comes from walking over a semi transparant prim.

The final nightmare will be adding in the night effect reflections, as she has an open roof set up and I have a massive ever changing fireworks display that goes on all night (tied in to the sun's vector). But I already know how to solve that, just gonna take some work.

The most realistic 'mirror' reflection on a floor I've seen was in a clothing store. It was done by duplicating the basic build and putting it upside down under the semi-transparent floor. Yup, better have enough prims available to do that. Otherwise you can plan on spending a great deal of time in Photoshop creating custom textures to give the image of reflection.

Maybe my sense of "naive optics" is confused, but I don't understand how an "image of reflection" can work, as mentioned in the last two posts. Well, I get that basically flat surfaces (like walls full of little flat prims) can be simplified into an image painted on a single prim to substitute for anything essentially coplanar with that surface. But to achieve an entire reflection with a single image is baffling to me. Intuitively, I'd think that such an image used as a mirrored floor would look correct at exactly one point above the floor: the position of the camera when taking the image, reflected about the plane of the floor. Am I missing something?

I don't think you are, I think they are just offering the cheapest solution, prim wise that is. Also in a majority of cases the human eye & brain working together may offer it up as an appropriate illusion that works as long as your not there to pick it to bits.

A better solution optically would be to use 5 views from differing angle, the four wall areas and the center?
