Warning about new scam in SL

Or at least its new to me. I'm debating, should I describe it here to warn people? Or does that make the idea more available for other scammers to use?

Well your subject title got my attention but now you do not warn me what to be on the look out for!

Perhaps this post is the scam?

If it is a scam, tell people so they know how to deal with it.
If it is an exploit, report it and give LL a grace period to fix it before going public.

Yes it is certainly a time waster.
How do we get it removed, is there a Moderator who will see it and decide?

I think it's a valid question. ArchTx is canvassing opinions. If you tried to report his post, you would be informed: "This is ONLY to be used to report spam, advertising messages, and problematic (harrassment, fighting, or rude) posts".

If every time-wasting post/thread on this forum was reported, we'd have bugger-all to read!

I was a neighbor of the OP for a few years and he doesn't strike me as the trolling type, in fact he was always a very nice person. I'm sure he wanted to get some ideas of how to post the particular problem without giving some griefers added ammunition.

Yes i think you should keep it under raps so the scammers can have a wider range of targets. Of course they scam on the uneducated in these maters.
Hopefully your friends and family get the info .

Don't name names and umm.. if it's not an exploit, then sure, give it a go.

if it is an exploit then warn Linden Labs not us. If it is a new tool for scammers then don't bother posting it here, most of us will already be aware of it or will be soon enough. Maybe drop a notecard on those people you recognise as being slightly decent from the forum if they request it.

First I apologize for not following up in a timely manner with this last week. A situation in RL pulled me away and I forgot that I had started this thread.

The Scam - I received an unsolicited invitation to join an advertising marketing group. It suggested that for only L$100 I would have access to all sorts of wonderful product marketing opportunities. To some this might have sound like an opportunity that is worth gambling L$100 on. But if they accepted the offer, they would fine themselves being charged L$9,999.

I find these unsolicited offers annoying so I went to AR it and found that the avatar who sent it didn't exist any longer. Apparently it was a throw away avatar. Not wanting to let the spammer off that easily I looked up the group name, it did still exist as did the group owner. So I AR'd them. That is when I noticed that the cost to join the group was L$9,999.

Spam and Scam, Bait and Switch. I wonder if they learned this from LL.
