Anyone heard of a male using a female avatar, and acting as if they are a female in real life, who have some kind of problem with their account or a technical problem that can only be solved with a phone call to Linden Lab support who have to just quit or create a new account because they would be embarrassed to admit they are male? I'm not asking for the names of individuals of course.
It seems to me that if SL has as many males playing females as is said and as many problems as it seems to there must have been some cases of this.
Possibly for accounts that aren't very old when the situation comes up the guy would just make a new female account, or decide to make a male account, or try to create an account with an ambiguously gendered name so they could play a female and still call support without feeling silly.
There's no point to this thread. I don't know anyone in this situation that needs help. I just thought of this while reading threads suggesting calling support to users with female avatars and wondering if some of the cases of people saying "I can't call, what else can I do?" are due to this reason.
I would have no trouble calling support and by virtue of have a voice and being able to converse revealing that I am not actually a household appliance.

From: Ricardo Harris Disgusting, isn't it? nope, infact it's more normal then I had even realized when I first joined SL. After some studing I did here for a while, I found out that there is alot of males who play female because (basising this on 15 people) who are transgender and they can not be who they want to be in RL this place gives them that escape so they can be who they really are.

I would think the embarassment would be a newbie thing. After they've been in SL for a while they'll learn that this is extremely common.......

Isn't this what voice changer software is for? Not that I'd ever consider using such software. I don't need to. I have a naturally wide vocal range, and can go from bass to soprano in the same breath.

This would be a case of people bringing their problems on themselves and nothing that LL should do anything about.
Would go for women who have male named accounts as well.
Rotary If you call with a fan next to the phone and yell into it - maybe you'll still get your point across without any embarrassment.

I don't see why anyone should be embarassed about it. Take Torley Lindon for examlple. works at for the company is male in RL but seems to prefer playing female in world.

It occurs to me that people in this situation might not ever tell anyone at all, at least not anyone is SL, so you'd never hear of such a case.
Well, if there is anyone in this situation who sees this thread, I hope they act on what Toy said, "LL doesn't care".

no one cares and it`s done by both sexes in any game that has male/female characters
if you get embarrassed calling support for a game where one of the most visible dev`s uses a female avi (as previously mentioned torley), then you seriously need to reconsider sticking with your own gender
personally don`t care aslong you are who you are and not role playing to screw with my mind

Well.....now what about the people who are, like, cats and dragons and little green men and stuff.....you think LL really cares...or actually thinks they're gonna have to learn meow talk talk or fire breathing in order to assist certain members? Gees... who cares.....male, female, other.... LL is well aware that we can be whatever we choose in SL.....that's the point, isn't it?

that is unless one is sexually attracted to pixels, then I can see this being a problem. I have a few friends who are duo-sexed in world, I have a few gender neutral avies. I suppose none of us frequent sexy places, so who really cares. Either way if one is basing their sex life on what they assume an avatar looks like, they are going to be dissapointed.

LL knows anyway. They ask for real life information when you sign up. So the people on the other end of the phone are going to know I'm not a basset hound when they look up my account information even if I bark at them.

There are people who spend their lives trapped "in the closet" due to their indulgence in mimicking some aspect of what they perceive as feminine. Cross dressers, transvestites, etc. One thing that some of these people want to do at times is "to pass" - to go out in public and be taken for a member of the sex that they aren't. In Second Life, you don't have to do anything but lie about your name when you register, select a name that seems feminine to you, select a female avatar, and don't reveal your real life sex in your profile, don't make your boobs too big, your waist too small, your hips too big, and use a moderate but not excessively swishy female walk AO, and voila, you've passed.
There's not really anything comparable for robots or furries. There is not, to my knowledge, a significant number of pubescent boys who sneak out at night wearing the best robot outfit they can make from their momma's robot outfits, torn between the desire to stay in the dark where they won't be correctly identified or heading somewhere lit up in hope that someone will see them and think they are a real robot and make a comment on how beautifully shiny they are.
The problem with calling support for people in this group that I'm thinking of is not that they expect to be mistreated by the support workers or that LL will change the picture on secondlife.com to a big sign that says "Danger! Danger! Priscilla McLendian is really a guy!" but more that they are forced to confront a truth that pains them and takes the fun out of it for them.

If I was at the point where I needed to call LL on the phone to sort out a problem, my rl gender, if i was hiding it inworld, would be the last thing i would be worried about... I would be so eager to have my problem sorted out that I would just want the help and never mind the gender issue...
Mind you, I live in the UK....

imogen And I live in the US. And I agree with you.......what is that UK stuff about? Location has nothing to do with it....it's how one thinks about things. Bet there are some Germans, Italians, Brazilians, Asians, Africans..........any number of other "*ans" that believe the same way.

I just meant that for me, it's not toll free, so I would be more desperate than anyone who calls a toll free number, that's all I meant... It would cost me a fortune, so I would have to be desperate anyway to be calling. imogen

Guys don't have to be Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson 24/7 whatever their gender inclinations. I think we'd have a saner world if people would just accept all facets of themselves and others. Of course that may be facile for me to say. I'm not looking for a relationship in SL. But even if I was, I think I'd still take what I see at face value and not be angry at the alleged gender "lie." I'd actually be more worried about getting into a relationship with someone I know rather than what gender they are. How horrible would it be to find out the girl you were cuddling with really is a girl in real life -- your neice. Hmmm?
