Network Issues Again Affecting Inworld Functions Posted by Status Desk on September 7th, 2008 at 12:24 pm PDT
We are again experiencing some network issue which are affecting inworld functions, including teleporting, region crossing, transactions and rezzing. Additionally, logins may be affected and the Land Store is offline. Ops is investigating, but until the All-Clear is called please refrain from making transactions or rezzing valuable or no-copy items.

The main builder in my club & a few other SL friends have gotten L$1,000s worth of inventory back that way. Yep, it actually worked. I wouldn't try til tommorrow though, today looks like SL-wise, it's gonna be a loooooong day.

there are two 'distinct' probs going on, though i wonder if they aren't a little related... 1) this past week's grid update to fix some of the previous week's big mono rollout, introduced (or revealed) a new one... https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-2908 (for a good codegeek hoot, check out the 'mono meltdown' textfile attachment near the top ;0) if anyone is like me... i blithly recompiled my vends in mono, and had already 'committed' my network to them. in effort to keep moving forward instead of backgrading, i've found that doing my upgrades slowly, one at a time, giving them each time to fully restart, and only upgrading vends that need it, will tiptoe a bit better around the problem. 2) near-daily vpn outages, on top of that! http://status.secondlifegrid.net/ seemingly this is a separate technical issue, yet it also seems to only have gotten really frequent since the past week's update. both probs combined is a bit of 'peanut butter & chocolate' for the vengeful, hungry gridgods... ;0 that's your gridweather, on the eight! next up, the atlantic tropical storm/hurricane calendar... p.s. actually i take it back ;0 reading back the logs closer it hasn't been vpn every day, but looks more closer to home to the asset/db/presence servers...

I have been considering getting the new warhammer online game, hubby got the pre-release and is playing the open beta at the moment, he likes it so far
he has been playing the tabletop miniature version of this for about 15 years so he is really enjoying seeing it come alive

Update

[UPDATE 13:44] Ops is continuing to work to fix the network problems. Please continue to refrain from making transactions or rezzing no-copy items until the All-Clear is sounded.

the reason i BOUGHT a new tip jar system is because all my scripted jars went batty about 3 days ago, and nothing i do fixes them. the owner suggested resetting scripts - duh- but other than that now he too has a useless system now - whatever it is thats messing with things i hope its fixed soon. my patience along with a huge tier fee coming up might both go missing,
Ive invested over a thousand USD now and Im about done with this LL stupidity and server updating.
there must be hundrds of "me's" inworld in the same boat. Any real world business, I'd ask for my money back. or sue for lack of serice.
i have a friend who does IT, when a company decides to revamp or remake a new site to replace or upgrade a existing one. they make the entire thing offline and run tests on it until is ready 100%, then they take the main site OFFLINE and delete, NOT PATCH, delete the old one and repoint the dns to the new improved site.
maybe SL doesnt work like that im not a tech head. But seems to me the exisiting "world " is very sick and needs a complete wipe and all new hardware and software brought in to replace it, clean out those ghosts!

Any real world business, I'd ask for my money back. or sue for lack of serice. Yep...I've said it before...this is NOT the place yet...and who knows when/if it will be, to really invest in, business-wise unless you're extremely liquid & just have cash to throw away. This is experimental, and also at this stage LL and the big dogs they are workin' w/ don't see a reason to take it mainstream yet with a giant media blitz, like they will after inter-Grid teleports are all ironed out...and there's more after that. If SL is causin' you the kinda stress you can just get in RL from a job, I suggest you pull out, investments-wise, and check back after a few months, to see how stable it is. Every year it changes, and it looks like M Linden means to stabilize things so he'll actually have a career left after coming to LL....but my advice would be to take what you can, and pull out for now. Maybe late next year, it'll be stable enough for you to come back & invest just a lil bit.

I have people who depend on me, employees and friends. I cant just up and leave them like that and expect any sort of reception in say a year from now. that, plus, Well, like most of us. I love SL. . . . darn it

From: Xio Jester Maybe late next year, it'll be stable enough for you to come back & invest just a lil bit. Stability wont change the mediocre notification protocols they currently have when there are technical problems, notification protocols which are not inhibited by technology, could be rectified very quickly and very easily, and have existed in their deficient state for at least several years. I understand that it's not perfect technology but simply being more proactive in notifying residents ingame about problems without hours of delay after they become aware of them would go a long way in ameliorating bad feelings and prevent a significant amount of inventory loss and monetary loss in situations like this one.

Multi Billion dollar revenue a year and you cant even get the network running good for oneday. Save your "oh him her us are working on it, its this that and this and that". put the money down from your RL hands and fix SL. I invest alot of money into this game, and for what? so i look like a white blob stain for hours? maybe i enjoy not being able to tp all weekend? losing inventory?
When someone finally steps up and sues, I guarantee SL will be prestine after that. Wake up, seriously, no for real, wake up *smiles*

Yup...just logged in...couldn't get dressed.....screw it. But I got other stuff to do anyway. And guess what....for all the gripes....we all still continue to go in world and do our thing.....and that's why LL succeeds. There's still enough of a draw to keep people coming back. We could do other stuff if we wanted....play other games...maybe walk the dog, help the kids with homework...watch a movie....do the laundry that's been piling up...brush the cat... Ya know...it's kind of pointless to come on here and vent when we'll all just log back in later when the dust settles anyway. It annoys me a little when I can't log in and do stuff.....but it really isn't a big deal. And yeah....I do put a lot of $$$ in SL. (my choice, I own my own foolishness )

What do you mean "we" paleface? I've cancelled my subcription and am going free account and have only been logging on once or twice a week for an hour or so. Same goes for a lot of people I know who have been with SL hardcore for several years. We've all moved that focus back to real life and/or other more stable traditional virtual universes. I'll still log into SL, probably for as long as it exists and they have free accounts, but I have much less interest in it now and it wouldn't bother me if it were to implode tomorrow.
