I'm seeing it often these days "I used to be Premium" in that spit that nasty 'P' word out way!

So out of interest which forum contributors have stopped being 'Premium' in the past year?

I downgraded 2 weeks ago, and I'm already starting to breathe easier, I can climb stairs again, and my food tastes better.

I'm a premium and my alt is too now actually. I needed more land and it was cheaper just to upgrade her :D

I'm still Premium because my stipend covers my yearly membership. But I tiered down to 0.

I'm premium and have no intertest in downgrading anytime soon. My thoughts are that $22.50 a quarter is not much to pay for intertainment, I have my little 512 lot (originally purchased under the defunct "First Land" program), don't pay tier, get L$500 stipend per week. I have a place to land when entering the world, a place where I can rezz what I want, put out my "pretties" for others to see, and a place I can control who comes and goes.

Also, I feel like I have more justification to gripe since I actually pay on a regular basis real money to LL directly. Downgrading would require me to either rent or go homeless (I never rented but I was homeless for a while when I first started)........both seem stupid to me. Renting is paying LL indirectly with a middle man getting a cut.........I don't see a reason to give anyone a cut when I can bypass that person. And being homeless sucks.......I spent my bad time changing clothes behind bushes and rezzing purchased items in a griefer infested sandbox.

I downgraded a few months ago. I just couldn't justify the cost for what you get.

I can do everything in SL I need to being basic.

This actually made me laugh out loud :)

I am premium, and my alt is premium too. Neither of us have any mainland land though... does the FC still need extra tier?

I was paying monthly, and the 300 a week is peanuts. I don't own mainland, I rent on an island and am happy with it, although I have toyed with selling my plot as I don't spend that much time there anyway. I could do with renting an apartment or being homeless really. I don't use Sl in a way that really makes the Premium Support options really worthwhile. I did feel that my 10 bucks a month was giving my due for SL, and i paid it for a year, but in recent times, I just see things that show me it may be going in a direction I don't like, so I decided to withold my funding for the time being. I may re up in the future, who knows.

I had to downgrade becasue of a bank issue, and was going to upgrade again on monday. unsure though. I dont own land, 300L doesnt really justify it, and i never use support or anything...

You can rent out that tier for some extra $L. Just search tier rental, online classifieds.

I went premium after being in SL for a year. Only so I could buy land. I'm pleased I did, it's a lot of fun owning land.

I don't follow it closely but I figure the rental market has grown substantially in that time so I suppose it makes sense that many people would downgrade from premium if they are going to rent rather than own mainland.

When someone chooses to downgrade it does not necessarily mean they are committing less to SL, even financially. It may just mean that they are paying through a landlord instead.

Premium and even tiered up to conceirge (by mistake.. damn new auction system) recently. Still not sure if I'm going dump some land and tier back down to 1/4 sim or rent off my extra tier, though - I kinda like that extra level of people I get to yell at. :)

Hmm just a crazy idea I had at some stupid time about advantages for being premium, what if Premiums had more name options or could chose their last name?
And if basic bot accounts just got numbers :)

Maybe, just maybe, LL don't really want residents to go premium, or are at least neutral to it. From their point of view putting an estate manager or a mainland landlord between them and the resident would have some value. All the "my neighbour built something ugly" "My neighbour is an asshat" problems would be dealt with by the estate manager. Probably at lower cost than LL can or could do it.

Staying at premium on two accounts, because for now it's the best choice. With the group bonus I don't pay tier, and both accounts get L$400 per week. If I could get a better deal renting I'd drop both accounts and do that.

I actually just purchased Premium about 15 minutes ago. The question I'm having now is: how do I get my land?

Go inworld. Search>Land sales. Select the "For Sale: Mainland" tab. Then start browsing for land. Be advised that First Land for L$512 is no longer available and you will have to pay around L$5000 for a plot in an attractive area. Also you will be charged monthly tier for anything you buy over 512 meters. To see how much land you can get at the various tier levels, go here: https://secure-web2.secondlife.com/account/landfees.php

So, you mean that even though I have premium, I have to buy land even if it's only 512 meters?

Yup good idea.

I wouldn't be premium if I wasn't a land owner.

Correct. Being premium entitles you to buy land and to hold up to 512 m² without paying anything in addition to your premium fee, but it does not give you the land itself.

If you don't have a premium account, you may not buy land (on the mainland). BTW, renting/leasing/buying (whatever you want to call it) land on islands is completely independent from your account level.
