Maybe you are, maybe you ain't. I'm not. I'm not planning on taking the survey, so I am I s'pose being unhelpful. Some have, an good on them. Some of us are prob'ly rude, ya. But a lot of us - I'd say the majority - are not.

Kind of OT, but what I don't understand is the necessity for people to respond to requests for input/questionnaire completion etc. with negative statements or proclamations that they will NOT be helping out.

For one, it leaves a poor impression on the hapless OP.

For another, it's just a little silly, isn't it? I know some people can't help themselves because they are naturally antagonistic, but jeez.

Constructive responses are best in a situation such as this, yes?

I've answered your survey Anton and I wish you success with your studies - but, truly, you won't learn anything worth the time and effort from a survey about Second Life. Get yourself in world and _really_ learn.

Well, like Deira said... its not an overall picture. Best way is in the doing, and if you want to do your study right, actually exploring the community from within is the way to go.

Well, at some point I kind of promised to do any of these that weren't an obvious smear campaign, so I felt obligated to do this one, too.
Indeed. At first I thought it was trying to assess internal consistency of responses (like the MMPI's famous "L scale", but huge numbers of respondents would be necessary to validate such a scale, and anyway, having the redundant questions all bunched together kind of defeats that purpose, so presumably it was trying to get at shades of meaning--but those shades are far to subtle for me to discern, in many cases.
Well, it was kind of a "meta-marketing" survey, about the tolerance for and appeal of RL brands in SL, and any cachet that might accrue to RL brands by having an SL presence.

But that's where the results are going to be problematic, and experience in-world would have caused the survey to be constructed very differently, to get meaningful results.

The problem is that in-world presence of RL businesses can be warmly welcomed and thoroughly despised by the same person, without any contradiction. For example, personally, I'm genuinely grateful for the amount of talented resources IBM has contributed to Second Life, and welcome Sun and other RL businesses that contribute to the technical aspects of the community; at the same time, I'm neutral about companies that are trying to use SL for their internal benefit (training, conferences, etc.); and I'm fairly disgusted by many RL businesses--or embarrassed for them, really--when they clumsily attempt to leverage RL brands in SL without understanding what the place is even about.

So I think the dispersion measures for those questions will be huge, because at least three quite different topics are buried in each one.

What you said here really makes sense. In the survey I should probably distinguish between the firms by what is their role in SL.
