Yesterday after having been told, "QUIET! QUIT IT! STOP!" and forced logged outta sl for and hour. I was wondering why I didn't get to see the cornfield. I was innocent of course. And im relieved that the Lindens ACTUALY DO read thier server logs when rats start squeekin! but er... have YOU been to the cornfield. And if u r a ggoody two shoed dime dropper whose I_NET feelings I hurt in past posts. Lurk elsewhere, or go in word and sip mint julips at ur lil club!

I believe the cornfield is no longer used. I did visit a public version of it some months ago. It also no longer exists.

At one stage, there were rumors about a hidden sim called "The Cornfield" where banned avatars were sent. It contained nothing but rows of corn and a really slow tractor, didn't allow any building, scripting, or anything similar, and didn't allow any kind of communication either.
I believe the general consensus was that it was a temporary "joke" or "experiment" by the Lindens that was abandoned quickly later on. After all, it's a hosted sim! They could be making $295/month from that server! |

You could always go to the Carnival of Doom and sit yourself down in their mini-cornfield, minimize draw distance, and pretend you were sent there intentionally.

Though it's not the old purgatory cornfield, there is a cornfield on a Linden's land, a sim or two due north of help island public..

I had folks in 2005 send me pictures of themselves in the Linden cornfield. Rows of corn and a TV showing old movies. If you were sent there you could not log inanywhere else until your punishment was over. I think they should bring it back and allow the Mentors the power to cornfield greifers. I believe the greifers would enjoy the ultimate negative attention.

Some old movies are pretty good! Maybe someone could do a cornfield build with a big drive-in style screen and show old movies.

Reminds me of a room that I built into one of the old text-only MUDs back in the 90's. The room was called Hell. The only commands were Retribution (which killed you) and Regeneration (which brought you back). There was no way to leave until you had killed yourself enough to get down to level 1. God powers can be fun when people start misbehaving!

Really! I don’t recall how it got there but if you’d like Ill send you a copy and you can rez it, put on a cop uniform and throw helpless noobs in there. (snapshots welcomed). Or you could do as Isabeau suggest or just frolic about the rows like a country bumpkin. * I in no way indorse the tossing of helpless residents of any kind into anything with out their full consent.  |

That cornfield thing sounds like it could still be useful. Last night there was a guy around that had a ton of people reporting him, for harassment I guess, so something like 5 mentors and a Linden show up and he *poofs*. In just over a minute, he comes back in a totally brand-new account to continue where he left off. (>_<
The thing I see is that by automatically logging him off, he was saved a couple steps into making his alt. If he were sent to a totally restricted region first, he would have had to realize that things have changed, logged off himself, then start creating his alt. Looking at how drunk he seemed, it would have taken an extra two minutes if things when that way. (^_^) Either way... Something like that corn field, a dunce-cap timeout freeze, or something like that would be a really funny way of handling small griefings like that. Especially in welcome areas where the class-clown culture is the current ruling clique. (^_^)y _____________________

they woulda had a mob in there by now if they still used it. how many cornfields would one need to build to confine the amount of people that they log off in any given day.. "if you build it they will come" they came in droves .. they had to tear it down.. _____________________
