I do this too :o

In fact, on my building platform, I have a big cushy overstuffed chair that I sit in when fiddling with something. I've been known to move the chair closer to the build. So my avie doesn't get tired

Oh, for sure! I'm that way totally!

(Though my seating of choice while building is - for some reason - a long plywood cube.)

I realized about the immersion back when I was in the beta TSO - the first online game I ever did. I was amazed to discover that when I got in the hottub with friends, my physical person at the computer chair really DID relax!

It's half the fun of it. Not to mention half the meaning of it! Otherwise, we all might as well just be in an AOL chatroom.

Playing with dolls or action figures is an integral part of childhood and has been since time immemorial. It's not surprising that given the same sorts of representative tools in the computer age, even as adults, we'd have the same sort of visceral responses.

And rabbits, and snakes, and monkeys - even sock monkeys!

When I go for a walk in a new sim, if build is enabled, I often rez my Black Lab. I don't feel so 'alone'. :)

I have a zooby cat, and also my bulldog dog, Spike, from - what's it called? - DOD, I think. (Somebody help me out there.)

Spike keeps me company. I talk to him, too, when people aren't around, so if you think YOU'RE weird, well . . .

My av can dance for hours but if he's not dancing and I'm working in my inventory or on textures then I have to have him sit down. I feel tired if he doesn't.

Also, I hate cold and snow. Despise it. I couldn't believe when the owner of the sim I own land on turned our sim into snow. Even though I live in So California I was freezing just looking at it. I had to cover the snow with prims and put sand down because I couldn't take it anymore.

Finally, when hanging out chatting, my av usually pulls out a cup of coffee or a glass of iced tea. Just more relaxed that way.

It really does make a difference.

Well of course we sit down! When friends come by I put out chairs, Pillow Talk things, a low table or two, hand out champagne flutes or coffee (depending on time zone), and sometimes put up a big Straylight tree with ground shadow. Especially fun on a bright beach. Everyone "visibly" relaxes...

My partner is exactly the same way! He's Israeli and he's really miserable in the cold and snow. I was "allowed" to have snow and ice at home, but only because I really, REALLY wanted it and he's a sweetie :)

My av IS me; I have a friend who talks about her av in the 3rd person and that seems totally weird! I also live both my lives on the basis that we get what we focus on, and what we're most likely to focus on is what we observe (rather than what we want). So for me SL is an opportunity to create/be immersed in those things that I want to create in RL too.

In my early days in SL, I had a Domme for a little while.

she bought me a "posture collar" which made my neck stiff in SL.

It made my RL neck feel stiff just looking at it.

because we rely heavily on sight for most information in our lives, and many sensations get 'filled in' by visual recognition, even touch to a degree... just think about the last time you acciently cut or scrped yourself, but didn't really notice until someone pointed it out to you.. and THEN it hurt...

alot of our learning an empathy is linked to sight because we rely so heavily on it, which is why hearing a description of something that's physically horrific and seeing it are VASTLY different things for most people... we automatically relate anyones personal appearance to own own, and having control of our avatars personalizes it another level...

add to that the fact that your control of your avatar makes it at a level an extension of you, especially on an emotional level.

me I can quite happily stare at my av, lying with my GF cuddled up on a sofa or some such and feel happy warm fuzzies... with barely a lick of conversation between us... emotionally, I'm there, and so is she, and that's comforting... even if it is pixels on two screens separated by several thousand miles
