From: M Linden blog To start, I am inviting everyone who posted a comment on my post to 2-3 inworld office hours in February. We will schedule them at times that are comfortable for different parts of the world. It will take a couple of weeks to get scheduled so if you commented on my previous post, expect an invitation by the end of the month. So.. What would you ask or say if you got a little facetime with M? Try to keep your posts productive...

I would ask how all of the negative remarks thrown at LL effects them.

I would ask him if he would be willing to lead the company toward a high-priority goal of all Lab employees striving to provide excellent customer service for its existing customers (the residents he has right now). And if not, why not?

From: Seven Okelli You're going, too, aren't you, Ceera? No, I will not try to attend his Office Hours. 1: I have a full-time day job, and I'm not going to take time off from my real job to talk to anyone at the Lab, especially when they have a track record of not listening. 2: It will almost certainly be conducted in Voice Chat. Which leaves me completely out of the conversation. 3: The last several times I tried attending an "Office Hours", I found it incredibly frustrating. The LL Staffers ignored any questions they didn't feel like answering, and cherry-picked the easy questions and those that agreed with their plans. Or they responded with vague comments that were no answer at all, or which had no authority.

"So, when are you going to sell SL to Microsoft?"
Or Disney, whichever is your choice. Either would be an improvement, to be honest.
Edit: Oh, you wanted productive posts! Sorry.
So my more serious question would be, "When will we be seeing improvements to the avatar mesh and will we be seeing more attachment points?"

I would say...."Could you please do this more often? like once a month, maybe? and snag some people from inworld too? the ones who believe they are immersed in Utopia? some of these forum people are grumpy on occasion, and a broad sampling would be nice."

From: Kira Cuddihy I would ask how all of the negative remarks thrown at LL effects them. I've heard that described as "noise" at various office hours. But nobody likes unfair criticism. And most don't like fair criticism. If you want to experience the "noise" effect then turn on email notifications for the entire SL blog, Second Life Answers, and Commerce Forums. Then try to read every post.

From: Meade Paravane So.. What would you ask or say if you got a little facetime with M? Try to keep your posts productive... M has pretty much always answered any fair question I have asked. Not sure I would burn his time asking the same questions over and over.

Assuming SL gets really big, I mean like the web almost, and the corporate world catches on and embraces the product - can you promise us there will be a way to tune the creeps out, that they won't intermingle with us and build golden arches all over the grid? That would be the saddest day in virtual history.

From: someone I would ask him if he would be willing to lead the company toward a high-priority goal of all Lab employees striving to provide excellent customer service for its existing customers (the residents he has right now). And if not, why not? I honor the writer every day when I use her megaprims (the BEST!)....but I'd like to suggest that we might want to avoid questions of the ............have you stopped beating your wife? variety. Our questions shouldn't carry the implication that LL despises its customers, even if we sincerely believe that this IS the prevailing culture at LL today. Reason: we don't want M to just turn off his mind ("oh, the usual abuse..." ---we want him to CHANGE his thinking. And it's only if we succeed in both intriguing him, and in convincing him that his OWN interest lies in changing, that we will make any headway.

From: Scylla Rhiadra Articulate and insightful as always, Kyrah . . . I don't like this new management team, i don't like what they are doing to us, and i, don't like how casually they are going at it. The sole reasons peoples are still here and cope with it is that there is no competition and that opensim isn't ready as a stable project.

LL can't grow if it caters primarily to its current user base and its "old guard." But, it can't survive if it alienates these either: the "old guard" in particular were the ones who BUILT SL.
SL is already reasonably diverse in some ways, but it must become much more so if it is not to either stagnate or collapse. What this means is that LL has to engineer a strategy that is going to attract and keep new users, while working harder to keep those already here happy. I see this as, in some ways, the BIG issue, because it encompasses all of the others: it relates to the "new user experience," to retention and recruitment of new users, to the building of tools that are going to be attractive to new users (such as, maybe, the dreaded "social networking" tools), AND it must also improve the experience for those already here by providing new and better building tools, governance procedures, revenue reforms, mesh, etc., etc., etc.
So, this would be my question to M. (as a kind of supplement to the one I actually did ask on the SL Blog): How are you going to set your priorities in such a way as to enable this kind of diversity of experience? So that both new user and old are happy, and feel that they are being cared for?
For a business with limited resources, it's a tall order. But it's one they'd better be thinking about, or SL is going nowhere fast.

From: Seven Okelli Why do you say that? Past history. The majority of LL Office Hours of late seem to be primarily done in Voice Chat. Oh, if you type a questiuon, they may deign to reply in text as well. But it has often been the case that if you don't have Voice active, you miss out on much of the Linden responses. The Lindens love Voice. It leaves no messy paper trail that people can use to verify what any specific Lindem said in Voice Chat.
