Yesterday I added credit to my account for the first time by using a credit card so that I could buy some Lindens. However, whenever I try to buy $10 worth of Lindens, it says:

"This transaction would exceed your monthly billing limit by US$9.7. You have already billed US$25.00 of your monthly billing limit is US$25.00."

Could someone please explain this, because I don't understand this.

Thanks

Hi TBone, welcome to the forum and Second Life.

You can read all about buy limits at this site:

https://secure-web8.secondlife.com/currency/describe-limits.php

That will explain things way better then I can. :D

The system is dumb like that, and as a new buyer you get temporarily stuck if you decide to put a deposit on your account instead of paying for the L$ as you go.

The problem is that when you buy L$, it will first see if you have anything on deposit and deduct from that. If it needs more, it taps into your credit card. The process isn't clever enough to lock onto a chunk of that deposit when you start an L$ purchase, so it assumes the worst and doesn't let it go through until your account is old enough for the limit to expire.

There should be a phone number on there, you might call them and ask billing to give your account a nudge.

Hi TBone,

I had a similar question after reading the page mentioned by Macphisto (which I suggest you read). You may find my thread useful as I (after working it out) and others describe how it all works:

I hope it helps.
