I am working on the SLwiki page about profiles: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Profilehttps://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/ProfileMy question is do you use the Interests tab / read it / etc? Is it searchable somehow? I never found a use for it myself, but I want a broader opinion than my own to write up the description.

No.
The should scrap it altogether and replace it with a "Friends" tab so that people can give an easy shout out to friends and significant others rather than forcing this natural desire into the Picks section.

It includes the languages section which I believe is extremely important.
Pep (But I would say that, wouldn't I?)
PS Your wiki information does not mention which version of the standard viewer you are using (assuming you are - although you seem to be showing a skin which is not the default one) nor that using other viewers might make the Profile look different, with different facilities and information.

Yes, the language info is the only one that matters. Unfortunately just a minority uses it.
In fact, I think that language info should be in the first tab.

Currently working with v1.23. So, yes Im aware there are multiple versions running around. Im working to the most current version thats out now, and how to account for older/open source viewers is still to be figured out. I happen to like the blue color scheme for the illustrations.

I never found a use for it myself, but I want a broader opinion than my own to write up the description. I've rarely used it. If anything, it seems like a superfluous bit of Old SL. Once useful, perhaps, when there were a couple thousand on the grid, now pretty useless.

I have never used it, or looked at this section on anyone else's profile.
I agree that language should be on the front page of the profile.

I have parts of mine filled out. But overall, the section is meaningless to me. Though, sometimes the text fields have something interesting in them. It wouldn't bother me if the tab vanished one day.

I fill it out, but, who reads it? (O.o)
I'm all for a Shoutout tab though. I have all my avatar types listed out in Picks... It'd be nice to not have to do that. (^_^)y

The "I Want To" selections pretty much describe everyone in SL, except griefers of course. The skills section is particularly daunting. According to SL I have no skills. They didn't list "center of the universe" or anything even close.

I make ice textures and I had a guy read my interests a while back and contact me for some textures and advice. It's useful sometimes.

Isn't ASL out of style? SL is not a dating service. LL can get rid of that tab or use it for adult/mature picks that don't show in the web search system since the web site is PG Only. I.e.; you should not be able to make a pick unless it is on a PG region and because it can be abused by editing web picks should not be editable. Editable picks and picks for mature or adult regions need to not be visible on the web site as per LL policy.
And because of this picks need to be delinked from search relevance.

I usually read the interests tab if I'm already in someones profile. It's pretty rare, but you can find some interesting info people put about themselves in there. I'd like to see the checkbox area removed, but the language box is uber important.

I often check it in the hope someone has filled in their languages info. I have mine filled out, but I've no idea if it's been useful to anyone. No-one's ever come up to me and said "Oooh, you build! I've got a job for you.". Not based on my interests tab, anyway.

I only use it to check someone's language(s)
The rest can go as far as I am concerned, and replaced with Friends tab.
Language can easely be merged in one of the other tabs.

I use it in my constant search for scripters. Like most other people though, I don't think I'd miss it if it wasn't there - except for language.

I was wondering about just this, a couple days ago, while I was pondering "just what kind of social networking / social media platform is SL, anyway?" (Answer: wimpy, except where it's brain-damaged. The Interests tab is both.) In theory, a Shoutout tab could be the beginnings of a FOAF network. For that matter, just existing "Friends" could be that, too, except many of us have "Friends" of now mysterious origin. (Well... big deal. I have the same situation on RL LinkedIn. ) Not that I think we really need SL social networking tools, nor even necessarily links to similar third party tools. But I think we're gonna get them, ready or not.

How about moving the Languages and Interests boxes over to the 1st Life tab, which has empty space, and make the Interest tab into a friends tab instead, working similar to the Picks tab, but linked to avatar name rather than parcel name? Still editable though.
