Hi! I am not a newbie but I haven't played SL (or lived in it ) for some time. Now most of the groups and places I once used to visit aren't there anymore, and its really hard for me to find anything to do in SL. How would you go about finding some group or place you'd spend time at/with? It would of course be easy to find a place using the search if I was looking for a specific theme, but right now I just don't have one in mind. I don't feel as if I can just look around and say 'Hey that looks like a nice place to be at', SL is too big and cluttered for that. For me the whole search funtionality doesn't amount to much, it seems the only way to find a place to spend time at in SL is by pure chance. So, does anyone have any advice for me? Thanks, Dalea

From: Dalea Kojima Hi!
For me the whole search funtionality doesn't amount to much, it seems the only way to find a place to spend time at in SL is by pure chance. Truthfully, that has beenm one of the best ways for me to find interesting places, just wandering. It takes time, but that's kind of the fun. There have been several threads on the subjuct here recently, and some listings have been made up. A search might turn them up, if I find them I'll put a link up.

Search is definitely a huge waste of your time.
I'm having the same trouble and I'm only a year old. Following the green dots usually nets me a group of campers. That's still rampant for some reason. Or I wind up at a dungeon. That's why I use an alt to go exploring at random. I can be a little rude (that is, more uncommunicative than normal) with an alt while I check out a place. If it looks interesting I can send my primary (that's me).
I think group search is the way to go too. I finally found group that is very active in one of my more esoteric interests. The only trouble is it's largely based in the UK, and they are most active when I'm at work -- and I work for Darth Vader. (Obviously I'm off today.)

Hmm, I guess I will really have to just fly around and look , or look for a group, it would be nice if there was a quick and easy way to get imersed into the second life.
The same with land/houses, I am thinking about building myself a place to live in, but there are hundreds of land sales and you never know how the community you built into really is until you have lived there for a time...
But thanks for the answers so far,
Dalea

It takes time to find a place you feel at home in. For me I like music and to dance so I spent some time hopping around different dance clubs and eventually came across Taffs Bar in Cymru, and found a wonderful bunch of people, now I just bought some land there There is SO much to find in SL. If you like, look me up in world and I can give you some landmarks to get you started.

Welcome back, Dalea! You unfortunately chose a moment to ask this question when forumites have had some recent contentious threads trying to answer similar questions, so people are probably shy of posting. Here's a recent, calmer thread which has some recommendations for meeting people and getting sucked back into SL: /327/d3/247771/1.html.

the forum has there own hangout and i'm surprised no one has mentioned it. i think a search for forum cartel will find it, otherwise hang about and i'm sure someone will post an SLurl.
