Blahhh, spent too much time in world today, decided to come check the forums before heading to bed.... and lo and behold...

I tried to alt cam the forums... when that did not work, I tried hitting escape to get back to the top of a thread....

god help me, I thought I was past that...

(now for the obligatory question)

How many of you do that, honestly really do that (not the joking stuff about right clicking ppl in RL and stuff) but actually try to alt cam a pic on a website, or use esc to get back to the start of a thread or something... (heck I have even looked at stuff in RL and though.. what a waste of prims LOL)?

Lol I do that sometimes on the web. Looking at a picture on snapzilla or something. I will try to Cam and zoom in and pan around.

I call it "builder's button" because I usually get it when I've had a seriously long session of building.

The great thing is that no one will actually notice me trying to cam in close on a jpeg or rotate my view of a web page so I get away with just shaking my head.

Warning! If you find yourself trying to right-click a tree in the local park or count the prims in your living room settee, I suggest you take a long break from SL altogether.

Try camming into a 2D in-world image :(

Eep, yes - it becomes automatic. The number of times I've tried to zoom in closer or pan around a picture on a webpage...

I'm not that bad, but I do sometimes see an attractive woman in RL and think to myself, what a nice skin and shape :-)

Yep I do it too. Try to zoom and pan around websites. It is usually just the impulse though
I rarely actually push a button before catching myself.

Have you ever just happened to have your car keys in your hand and tried to unlock stuff other than your car? I did that at the door to my house once.

I only tend to do this with pictures taken in world and posted in these forums, but last night I did something utterly and completely geeky I hate to confess.

The new Star Trek movie made me nostalgic for the original series, so lately I've been watching it on Hulu or Fancast. *For the record, this is just a stroll down Memory Lane -- I don't live there.* In an episode last night Shatner was standing in my line of view of a pretty android (Sherry Jackson) and I caught my hand edging toward the CTRL and ALT keys and the mouse. I was half alseep though.

I have many MANY times tried to cam around in Photoshop.

Also the chairs in my (RL) lawyer's office waiting room are CLEARLY one-prim.

This jogged a memory that shows how old I am. Sherry Jackson was also one of Ma & Pa Kettle's kids. I never realized before now thou that this must be where LL learned to do math regarding bots and number of users. They must teach the Ma and Pa method in college now:

Ma and Pa Kettle?! That awakened a remote synapse that was dormant so long it actually hurt. Like the time I found a replica of the Sky King plane, Songbird, in world . . .

Anyway, didn't mean to hijack the thread. Carry on, kids.

I did one yesterday that actually worked.

I was sculpting in Maya, using ctrl D to duplicate objects.
..then got back to SL, and did ctrl D instead of shift dragging.
I freaked out when it actually worked. :P

I don't hit esc much on websites, but as my eyesight gets ever so much better with age  and it seems the pictures get smaller and smaller, I am constantly trying to alt cam for a closer look.

And I get really really ticked when it does not work.

I'm always doing that - I try it in Poser and Photoshop. I've even been on the bus, looking out the window and working out how many prims it would take to build Buckingham Palace!

Time for a holiday!

nope but I have had them in my hand trying to find them, and had my sunglasses on trying to find them too...

(I also once put the container of icecream in the fridge, and blamed my ex saying he did it then tried to say I did, because I just could not remember doing it, my brain remembered putting it in the freezer)

I have caught myself trying to put things in odd places, ie, milk in the cupboard, stuff like that

In my (RL) house I have a laundry chute door located just the the side of a door concealing a garbage can. Humorous results ensue from time to time -- Doritos bags in the laundry, dish towels in the garbage, things like that.

Alt-camming in non-SL apps... all the bloody time. The worst is when I'm in SL & PS at the same time, taking and editing pictures, because there is often the same view in both windows. But yes, almost any time there's a picture I want to see from a different angle my index & ring fingers hover over alt & ctrl.

I have to admit that is a tad before my time, but what it does remind me of is "New Math".

What is so funny was that "New Math" is still a very important body of knowledge for engineering, but it is not "Math", as young schoolchildren can understand, but instead "number theory" and "set theory", which only high school and college students can really grasp.

The dig is appropriate, though, given LL's propensity for mishandling numbers and statistics. :p
