From: Pserendipity Daniels Is that the singular "you" or the plural "you"?
Pep (The French use the singular differentially for friends, animals and as an insult, I understand) "U" is not French, it's Dutch. It is the formal/polite form of "you" - both singular and plural, masculine and feminine. It is not always capitalised though - but I have noticed the Belgians will capitalise it more than the Dutch seem to. Of course, in English, we long ago gave up using the informal "thee" and "thou" forms and we nowadays call everyone by the polite form of "you". EDIT: Oh Richard Dawkins....hmmmmm. He seems a very charming man and quite clever, but he doesn't think everything through and I don't think I would rate him highly in the IT department.

From: Deira Llanfair "U" is not French, it's Dutch. <politeness>I was actually talking about the way the French differentiate "tu" and "vous", but thank you for pointing out the bastardised German form. </politeness> From: Deira Llanfair It is the formal/polite form of "you" - both singular and plural, masculine and feminine. Ah, how I yearn for the good old days . . . Pep (So what happened to "ye"?)

Pep (So what happened to "ye"?) Yes - Flemish is the same as Dutch - different accent and a few peculiarities - but essentially the same language. I think "ye" is also an informal form - more closely linked to the Dutch "je" where the "j" is pronounced like the English "y" in ye. That's enough language for today - time for tiffin.

From: Novis Dyrssen I still stand by my theory that everyone who spends a significant amount of online time here (not counting the ones who do indeed only are in it for the big money) usually has some pretty fucked up reasons for doing so. And yes, I do include myself here. Given the size of the SL economy, being "in it for the big money" is a pretty wacky reason too.

A friend is renting on an island that is owned by a guy who hardly ever logs into SL, who doesn't even LIKE it. He leaves the whole management issues to some longterm residents, he just finances the stuff and cashes out the profit. That's what I meant.
