Same item different creator?

Today I saw someone wearing what appeared to be the same hairstyle as mine, and I pulled the creator profile to be sure. However the creator of his hair was a fairly young avatar with no indications of being a creator in profile. I looked closer at the hair and it was indeed the same style I was wearing.

This pussled me a bit. How is it possible that the creator of an item changes? (it was not the same person as owner of the hair)

sadly theres a LOT of copybotted hair out and about recently..
you could take a screenshot and send a note to the creator of your hair..

Been a few instances lately where a person is just standing around, minding their own business then notice another Avatar close to them wearing exactly the same wardrobe and accessories etc. Stolen right from under their noses.

That happened to me at a freebie warehouse. Someone near me changed into a clone of me, minus my hat and sunglasses. They had red floating text above them explaining they will copy any avatar appearance to order.

I made hair with alt while back ago it was my Carry Pack No hair up the butt
cornrow hair. Then some how after I uploaded the texture, sold few copies to friends.
This other person who has been around not as long as Dagon Grimm but almost as
long from 2004 name showed up in the creator field.
This happen to several people with same creator.
I have no clue why.
I tried to contact her but no answer.
It took me months to figure out how to do the hair, it wasn't exactly the quality yet
I wanted I don't even think I sold more any for the display place 25L, when it was in Etopia I took it down. Later a friend offered me 500L for one though I never tried to sell it after that. Shortly after that I realized the creator field had been changed.
I was furious.
I have several textures the Lindens were able to change the owner field.
So who knows maybe non-Lindens can hack the inventories and uuid texture fields of residents too.
I didn't even bother reporting it because I figure no one would do anything about it.
I figured also the person was from 2004 so she be believed because she been active
member longer then Carry or I.
I discussed the problem here months ago.

Did you inspect it or edit it?

I think if they modified the hair and added a prim of theirs as the root, it will show as them as the creator. The trick is to do Inspect which shows the creator of all the prims in it.

I`m going to say there`s a very good chance this was a copybotted hair esp from the age of this "creator." Just the other day someone passed me SIX FULL PERM (!!) copies of my hair that had been copybotted. :(

You should definitely IM the original creator. I`m sure he or she would like to know.

I inspected it, not edited. As for the adding prims, the hair would still not be transfer, would it? Also it was not cloned "from" me, as the person wore it as he was tp-ing in.

A pity I didn't note the creator name I saw, but if I meet the person again (good chance I will) I'll ask about it's origin.

:(

Definitely check the creator again next time and maybe send a note to the kosher creator.

You can't "edit" attachments worn by others. Well, you are not suposed to be able to but obviously with a copybot someone did :(

If you first go in edit mode on an object you wear yourself, and then click an object another person is wearing, you will be able to see info on that object, just like when clicking objects rezzed by others. I used to do this to find the creator's profiles, but now i only use inspect (I can't recall having an option for seeing creator profile via "inspect" before).
