I read some time ago that there was another template besides the one that the Lindens handed out, for creating clothing. What template do most designers use? I'm really familiar with Photoshop, so I'm going to give a shot at creating.
Oh and is Photoshop CS2 alone enough for most creations?
Thanks.

Hello,
A great start would be to dive into the forums here for textures. Chip Midnight has made available templates that are great and best of all free.

Ok I'll try the texture forum too. How does that one compare to Robin Sojourner's? Which one is more suited for medium-level content creation, with the creations possibly for sale at a later stage? Thanks.

I started out with either the NMC or Robin Wood's templates but modified them to make the mesh black on white with color around the edges for bleed-through, and then saved the mesh only as single layer .jpg files. When I make clothing, I create a 512*512 page blank and then add several more transparent layers. I put the mesh on the top layer and anchor it (I'm a GIMP user.) and then I set the white on the mesh to alpha to make it transparent. I can then build theshirt, pants, or whatever below the top mesh.

Robin's are more detailed than Chip's, and they have more matching help guides. Also, I think (but am not entirely sure, would have to check) Chip's are 512x512 and Robin offers 1024x1024 (basically this means you can work with more detail than when using 512 from the beginning).

personally I use Robin's, but I too use it as a single layer, on occasion I will duplicate that layer move it to the top and make it a bit transparent if I need to see what I'm doing. But agreeing with an earlier poster, this question really belongs in Texture Tips forum, there is a wealth of information there and a good part of what you might want to know is already stickied at the top.

I always create at 1024x1024 and resize it before bringing it into world.

This. I always work at a larger size, then make it smaller before I upload. Easier to work big and get smaller than work small and lose detail.
