I do not have the option to teleport others...

even when they are online, the option is greyed out. Is this because of some setting I have mistakingly clicked? I've been attempting to resolve this for days! And it's driving me crazy. I have to give a landmark to the person everytime I want them to come my way. Yet, others are able to teleport me.

And advice or help is greatly appreciated.

No-one does. It's a bug in the current version of Second Life.

For the moment, to teleport others, use the "teleport" button at the bottom of the Friends window rather than the one in the person's Profile.

If the person is not a Friend, things get a bit involved: first of all, if you don't have a Client menu, press Ctrl+Alt+D to get one, then choose Client > View Admin Options. Open the person's profile and the Offer Teleport button will be available. You'll get a rather confusing message ("God Summon this person to your location?";) but ignore it, it will appear as a regular teleport offer. Once you're done, choose Client > View Admin Options again to get rid of the X that appears next to it in the menu. Do not click on any of the other unusual buttons that appear while View Admin Options is selected!

... or just send them a landmark.

But landmarks get diverted by telehubs, which can be very annoying if you are far away from the telehub. It would be much better if landmarks had higher priority.

That would be a neat trick, seeing as how there aren't any telehubs these days, and haven't been for about a year or so.

I think she is talking about the default "landing point" the land owner can set.

There's a workaround. On the client debug menu (i don't remember how to make it appear, if your's disabled; i think it's shift+ctrl+d or something), you select "view admin opstions". Then the 'offer teleport' option will be enabled on non-friends profiles.

You can just hit Ctrl-Alt-V as well...it gives the same result without fiddling with the menus.

Or - you can use the First Look viewer - where you can even teleport yourself to yourself ;)

Don't you call those telehubs?

And I still want a workaround to get LMs that get me to the right place where I took the LM ...

That can't be legally done. The idea is that you can't sneak into someone's house when they are not there, take an LM, and then go back any time. Nor could you take an LM on some empty land, wait for someone to build a house/club or something there and then teleport back to the old LM and potentially wind up in a private area.

You can also send them a "SLURL" in chat. a clickable hyperlink that will pop up their map, and allow them to teleport to you. A bit of a kludgey way to handle it.. but the lucky chair groups are using them almost constantly now.

IM me in world if you'd like a copy of the Slurlmaker hud button I have. One click, then it's a simple "copy and paste" to give your friend a way to get to you.

Can still get intercepted by "landing points" if they're set on the land.. but your friend can still "follow the red line" to the location of the link.

I thought the First Look viewer solved this problem. The latest one has all kinds of delicious bug fixes in it. If you can't teleport people on your friends list that is very odd....but you can still try the First Look viewer. I've heard people say they are happy with this version of it, and persistent bugs are now fixed.

So you haven't heard about people whose huds aren;t working using FL?

I don't consider it "advertisable".. it's BETA software.. and not right for everyone. Certainly not something you should be advertising to new users who haven't figured out how the official client is SUPPOSED to work.

That's true. There is a new Regular viewer coming out, presumably soon on a Wednesday near you. It also has many delicious bug fixes in it. From what I recall though, the latest Regular viewer that you can download and use still has trillions of bugs in it because they have been focusing on the First Look viewer. The FL viewer is supposed to either be incorporated into or replace the Reg one eventually if I have been following the blog correctly. Personally, I think this latest Reg viewer is being released to remove all transaction histories from the program to reduce lag; they prob threw in all the fixes from FL as an added wonderful bonus. lol Here is the blog link to the post about the new Regular viewer which is still in beta at the moment.

Like most residents, I don't have much faith in LL's quality control. What they determine is "worthy of official release" frightens me as a person with tech support and customer service experience... However.. they DO have a process for determining what is "ready for public release".

And they even admit that the "First Look" is a "work in progress" and isn't an "Official" release. While it can be argued that their idea of "ready for release" is questionable... the fact that EVEN LL doesn't think this client is "ready to be official" should make people take notice.. and think twice before using it solely.

And really.. I don't think it should be offered to users less than 2 weeks old. Kinda like how they can't get on the beta grid either.

However, there are plenty of cases where one does want to TP to a public space, that nevertheless gets diverted by the landing point. For instance - if I wanted to give you a LM to my stall in a large mall, such that it would have the same effect as if I were standing at the stall and offering you a TP.

Since you can TP anywhere you like once you get into a sim, why is it such a big deal to control where someone arrives from outside a sim?

Managing experiences, perhaps to make sure you can deliver a "local sim rules" notecard to visitors (or count them) or not wanting to be surprised by a sudden appearance on top of your mag100.

It's the choice of the landowner, ultimately.

I hit ctrl-alt-V almost as soon as I log into SL these days.
