Why Can't I Tp Or Upload?

Have not been able to do either since the last upgrade.

Do any Lindens care? I doubt it

I almost - ALMOST - cried about this. I love to make things, but I simply can't upload a .tga or .jpg or other format file. I have 3 alts, and none of them can do it either.

I've emptied my cache, deleted and reinstalled the app, emptied my cache again. I give up.

But then, I realized...who needs the aggravation?

It's so STOOOOOPID!

/me trys to comfort Victora.

Somewhere between your keyboard and the Linden server there is a problem. It sounds like you have doone a good job eliminating the software as part of the problem. Let me give you a few more things to try. You see, I have the same problems from time to time. Maybe what I do will help.

Working from the computer backwqards, turn every thing off. Computers, networked printers, switch, router, wireless access, cable modem; anything that is part of the network power it off. Then wait at least 30 seconds. I find it helps to mutter curses under my breath, but that step is optional.

Then, in reverse order, power every thing on one at a time. Plug in the cable modem (or whatever you have) and let it finish all it's flashy/flashy powerup things, then move on to the next thing. Bring every thing up in turn. Finally, boot up the computer.

This next step is vitally important. You must take a picture of yourself for a test upload. Make sure you are facing West and totally nude so that the setting sun casts a golden hue around your body. Up load that and transfer it to me so I can, ummm, make sure the uplaods are working. Yeah. We'll go with that :0

If you have a wireless acess point, even if the computer you use is not wireless, it can get bogged down by other devices; phones are bad about this. If you can change the channel your phones are using you will probably have much better connections on your network without having to reset it as often.

By te way, I hope you understand I was just joking about the picture. You don't have to be facing west :)

Seems a lot of people are having this problem lately. Every time you turn around somebody's asking for a nude picture..

Seriously, the asset server is having a few problems now & then. Try logging in to a different sim. If you're online in SL then it's NOT any modem, router, or network device. It could be a software firewall or some type of security suite software that's auto-blocking new connections, try disabling any you might have. A long shot might be trying a different version of the viewer.. dunno.

Are you running any firewall software?

Most firewall software will pick up the new version of the client as a different piece of software from the previous version.

Hi Victoria, is this the same issues you were having back in December? Has it been happening continuously since, or did it go away, and then come back?

Still on the MAC?

Did you ever try Nicholaz's MAC client? Did that help?

Despite Yosef's chronic flirtation problem, his advice is a good thing to try too.

/me shakes her head sympathetically at Yosef but hopes he doesn't go for treatment

Ohhh good point
try disbalebing the firewall for a couple of mins and see it that works.

also -try upoading a simple small jpg and see if that works;
sometimes software saves the files in a slightly different way
eg Jpg with progressive scan or j2000 format and these may be causing problems.

The simplest form of file is bmp; they just are - and nothing too fancy
(make is small though, like tga (which I would never use) they can be HUMONGOS
causing upload time-outs.

As for why you can't TP - it does sound like a crrupt viewer, you can usually use a a retro viewer now that the things aren't mandatory and a given day anymore.

If you do remove SL
remove the cache as well and re-boot the machine to remove memory hogs.

Good luck girl (big Wet kiss)

Why Can't Vic tp?

Hi guys, thanks for your kind replies.

As a 29 year veteran of professional technical support (yeah, I'm old), I never assume anything. I've checked software, connections, firewalls, etc.

I actually uploaded a jpg last nite, but only after 8 hours of constantly trying. Still can't tp at all. Period. Nope.

Yes, this is the same issue I was having in Dec, still on a year old Intel Dual Core MacBook w/2 gigs of RAM, all the latest s'w for OS X Tiger.

But, I don't recall a 'Nicolaz's Mac version' being mentioned. Please clarify and leave a link for that, if possible. Thanks.

Hugs and blessings to all :)

I'd start here: http://nicholaz-beresford.blogspot.com/2007/12/platform-builds-for-experimental-be-v0.html

(I have no experience with SL on the Mac in any flavor, nor with the Nicholaz client, but this looks like the official link.)

Good luck!

*sighs* And whatever you do, before you deal with Linden Labs support, make sure you update your video drivers. *mutters* Yes, the stupid things are linked to the uploading and I have no idea why.
