Take Incanus up on his offer. He's a decent chap, and this is coming from his 'competition' - you'll find a lot more classy behaviour in some of the more civilised parts of the grid.

If the 31st is the given date, then you can login like normal until then, and I believe you can reactive your account without charge, After that date, it will cost you $10 to reactivate and keep your inventory, for a period of 60 days I believe. After that, your account will be gone .

He and others in the thread have been very kind but I doubt I'd contact anyone anytime soon due to this thread, just wouldn't feel right. I always hated those women who always seemed to find ways to get into trouble and find a crowd of helpful guys to make life easier for them, it's a social introduction for some it seems. That's not what this is but that's what it would feel like. I only had a few days invested in this one anyway so if I do rejoin I'll probably make my own way for a while at least, until I'm comfortable running into someone as an old acquaintance from a thread rather than as the newbie who got into trouble and needed bailed out I wouldn't mind saying hi again to a few people here under those circumstances. |

You should take some of the people up on the offers of help. If not the guys, there are many of the ladies that would be more than willing to help you through the most confusing aspects of sl. I wish I had come here long before I did. It would have saved me much confusion and mistakes. Also check out the Forum Cartel Group and Hangout, lots of the people that post here are members.

I did not know you could still use the forums even after deleting the account as for the ban stuff, as many have already said, a lot of folks have no access on their land and when you run into it, it will say you are banned, when in fact it is more of a everyone is banned When you delete a account it takes like at least 24 to 48 hours before it takes affect but if it was mistake and you want it back they charge you 9.99 To Op I am sorry you ran into this problem most but not all people are kind enough to say hello, can I help you? Politely inform you you've entered private area. Only time I have froze, ejected and ban people outright was when they were rude. Yet there some who will shove or shot you if you enter their land and send you 2 sims without warning, or worse because they can. _____________________

Hey Saturn!
Give it another Go! SL can be very intimidating at first, but take your time, and explore and as previous posters put it, ignore those who would be idiots. if you need a spot to change clothes or use as a home base until you and your husband feel more comfy, im me in world and i will send you a landmark to my place. and Welcome to SecondLife ![]() _____________________
There's, uh, probably a lot of things you didn't know about lindens. Another, another interesting, uh, lindenism, uh, there are only three jobs available to a linden. The first is making shoes at night while, you know, while the old cobbler sleeps. You can bake cookies in a tree. But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

Someone else asked about what would help new users... well... just covering the little things such as ban lines would help. Maybe draw a line between "you've been banned" and "you're trying to enter a private area". If both are giving the same notice that could it seems confuse some of us Right here, you've given Linden Lab (the company behind Second Life) excellent advice that could help them retain new registrants--one of their oft-stated goals. Yes, it's natural for people new to SL to bang into the red grid of a no-access parcel and wonder 'what did I do wrong?' If we persist we finally realize that there's nothing personal about it---but it's not as if people are BORN knowing there's nothing personal involved. Orientation Island needs a nice big section devoted to telling new people this. I notice that one person in this thread talked about the ban lines existing To Stop Rude People. That person is certainly entitled to his/her opinion....but I don't think this is a logical position to take. For one thing, a truly rude (or determined-to-spy) person can easily 'go' all over the No Access property with camera controls. For another thing, I would estimate that only 0.000000000002% of avater-hitting-ban-lines incidents are intentional. Virtually all such incidents are accidental. (Somewhat off-topic, but: I wonder what percentage of parcels-with-ban-lines are that way because the new land-owner just automatically ticked the 'restrict access' box, out of natural-to-humans territorial instincts? I wonder what percentage of those who've ticked that box even KNOW that it creates the nasty red ban lines?) Anyway, Saturn, you seem like a smart and sensible person who might find Second Life to be more compelling and interesting than you dream, even if you don't get into the building aspect of it. As far as interesting places to visit, there's a very popular blog that features lists of such places. (As a relative newcomer to the Forum, I'm not sure if we're allowed to give URLs of non-official sites; I'd just advise Googling Second Life and New World.) |

Ignorance is its own reward. Why didn't you ask here before you deleted your accounts? Pep (On the other hand, perhaps you had the right idea) Pep, I know you don't take this stuff very seriously, but I really wish you'd refrain from sniping at folks who come here with their frustrations. You know, if it's someone who's an obvious idiot- someone the grid would be better without- I wouldn't be so annoyed, but I've seen you do this sort of thing to completely well-meaning people and it just isn't cool. You don't have to like or agree with everybody here, but would it be so hard for you to just bite your tongue, instead of running folks off before the rest of the community who actually give a damn have a chance to help out? _____________________

I said it was warning we all know ban lines only work in limited ways on Mainland but if you cross above them I have right to do certain things to those who are rude and intrusive.
It just a warning and only stops people via certain height, nothing more they can still tp in uninvited anywhere in profile picks if they choose, etc. We just have few things to tell people we don't want to them in certain areas on mainland. I pay for small corner of grid, I am not entitled to entertain whomever wants to stop by. Op first time I went exploring with friend I went to this one area I had these 2 avatars rudely shove me and did not even bother to talk to me because they could. It was very intimidating, I didn't know how to move very well or fly, or get away. This is what Second Life is like a whole of the time at least to me. It's got lot of great builds, few good people but most of time it's a ghost town with few idiots trying to make your Second Life as miserable as they can if you let them. SL is great if you want to create but if you want to play a game or be around more of social polite bunch SL really isn't one of those places unfortunately. There are wonderful people here but not all are. _____________________

Saturn, don't think of it as charity.
Some in SL get great joy in helping others. By taking up the gracious offers, you will already be giving back to SL. Good luck! |

Op first time I went exploring with friend I went to this one area I had these 2 avatars rudely shove me and did not even bother to talk to me because they could. It was very intimidating, I didn't know how to move very well or fly, or get away. This is what Second Life is like a whole of the time at least to me. Well, that's awful, and I can understand your reaction. I've been pushed only once; a few days after registering, while building in a sandbox. It took me a while even to find my avatar (I'd been using camera controls to look at my object). If that had happened to me once a day in the days after I'd registered, I might very well have left SL. After you've been here a while, you know what to do about those people. And of course you can ban everyone from access to your land if you feel you're being targeted (though I'd think it would be even more satisfying to AR the person/persons doing the shoving.) I do think that the whole system of parcel access needs revamping, though. It shouldn't be so easy for people to put up ban lines without even realizing they've done so. And surely a necessary step would be to add some information about ban lines to the Orientation Island set-up, so that people wouldn't take them personally. |
