ok all you lovers and partner-less people, let's have a some thoughts on how we cope with missing our sl partner and friends due to rl commitments over the yuletide period.
What gets you through it?, some inventive ways of coping, things to do by way of distraction and how if at all sl/rl affect our lives especially at this time of the year.

Me? I'll go for very long walks and occasionally get onto sl to organise a new skybox build for my partner as a new year surprise, rental paid, so all she has to do is decorate and shop. This will give her something to look forward to, when the madness of christmas subsides.

A very happy christmas to one and all and may you get all you desire.

That's a very nice story! Just remember it is said that absence makes the heart grow fonder. It's nice to have those reunions once you meet up again :winks:

Course there's the other one: "Out of sight; out of mind."

Not only is it Christmas and my SL partner is busy, yesterday was my birthday. And then one of my teeth broke.

Coping? I've been alternating between crying and muttering darkly.

Out of sight, out of mind, sounds like you are missing your partner because he is out of sight.

Out of sight, out of mind reminds me of a fairly recent ration on rice in America. It's like the more they rationed the rice, the more people thought about rice and craved rice.

Sorry for your crying, and hope you get some pain medicine for your tooth and get it fixed soon! Ouch!

Sorry u r aching Czari :(

@ OP - between inworld IM's and here in PM on the forums - u do what u must do to cope with the separation. Don't forget too the power of thought. I very much feel his hand upon me though I have not "seen" him in days.

Too, let's not forget- that we do have two lives. Though we love deeply in our SecondLife, do not neglect the family you can touch- alas the ever present dichotomy of an SLer.

Thanks so much Ava & Amar...just returned from the drugstore (yes...there is one actually open...lol) to see if I could get an over the counter painkiller with codeine. Couldn't find it, then remembered it's probably behind the pharmacist's counter...which *is* closed.

One of those "Murphy's Laws" things about stuff happening when you can't get it attended to - or something like that.

Sheesh, I've got to quit spouting all these expressions. It's the pain. :nods:

Excellent reminder, Amar! I've been thinking for some time that I've been spending waaay too much time in SL and that I need to get involved in some RL activities.

If it's a case of neither partner being able to get online at the same time as the other, then logging on whenever possible and leaving little gifts and notes all around the house for when your partner *does* get online is a nice way of getting through times when you're apart. A nice envelope texture and a give_inventory script on an 'envelope' prim to hand your partner a loving notecard, a giftwrapped parcel with the same script that gives a small handmade gift, both are nice things to leave a loved one at any time of the year, but especially when you're apart.

Why are the imaginative guys gay? See, that's what I would have LOVED! My birthday (and so far Christmas) have been totally forgotten! :(

Happy B-Day Czari!

Most of us get our imagination and sensitivity beaten out during 'guy' training. If we are not careful we can also get sent to the 'spine removal' class.

Thanks, Derbor :)

Yeah, I always thought that spine removal thing was not a good idea.

Czari honey, I am neither a guy nor gay- and i never remember birthdays or anniversaries - my poor husband is the abused one in this case- in my defense, I do not note my birthday either. I am actually trying to make not of SL anniversaries and have added RL Bdays and anniversaries to minders such as Yahoo now so hopefully I will be better next year. I forgot my RL wedding anniversary and its the day before D-Day- so it's not like there aren't plenty of reminders otherwise...

Well, Czari -- Happy Birthday, and just so you don't feel alone,
I broke one of my molars Christmas eve which definitely put
a different spin on things.

Thank you for the birthday wishes :) And very sorry to hear of your tooth tale as well. Goodness...who would have known Christmas Eve would be a bad day for teeth.

Most guys don't live in the past. Just because the earth has gone around the sun again, or the moon has gone around the earth a certain number of times is only a feeble excuse to celebrate; I prefer reasons to rejoice.

Pep (I was once given the cold shoulder by a geek gf because I had not "noticed" that it was 32 days since our first date; she didn't last lasted another two to the power of zero day)

Happy birthday Czari,

My partner and I texted each other a few times during the day. He wanted to know my family's reaction when I opened up one of his gifts. It was gorgeous diamond tennis bracelet.

On Christmas Eve, he asked was I going to open my gifts he sent in front of my family. I said yes probably. Then he got real quiet and I asked Dear what is wrong? He told me ok don't open the light colored package in front of them. So I did, and boy am I glad I did. I would have really, seriously been blushing had I open THAT gift in front of them.

True getting on line at the same time can be a problem, especially when you both live 3000 miles apart with a 5 hour time difference.
We do learn to cope and at the same time cursing the time difference
We have an OS and we love the privacy because our time together is precious, she might mention something she likes so when she is not there i will build it for her to surprise her.
Many nights she is up until 2 or 3 am so we can spend time together.
I always leave little things for her,i made up a big christmas love card and left it on the bridge railing, when she saw it she cried.
I am always doing things on the island to surprise her, does'nt matter how big the project might be it's worth it

I'll tell you this, it was nice because that man has very good taste. It was also naughty because that man has very naughty taste too. Hehehe
