LL sold 832 new islands in March. Even if the 45/46 sim supply that you mentioned was full private islands that had been abandoned, that's less than a 2 day supply. This price drop has absolutely nothing to do with covering losses on abandoned or reclaimed land.

The retention rates of PI's has never been disclosed .. but 45 simulators already leased by LL™ and making no return is better reurned to the paying public.

BTW a Private island or a Mainland region makes little diffrence to the bill payers at LL™ ..
They are still accountable for a CPU core .. whether it is a million 16sqms spread over several mainland sims or a couple of PI's.

Actually this leads me to a question I asked on one of the other threads that was never answered. If you don't get a buyer for a PI and you cannot continue paying tier for it, can you abandon it back to LL like mainland? Also can you situtated your PI so it is attached (at least by water) to the mainland?

Weather you can or cannot "legaly" is by rhe wayside .. people do abandon/cease to pay on PI's .. at which point they are "recycled" by LL™.

Makes sense that after a certain "backlog" a number of mainland sims can be "dumped" and eventually PI's can be delivered almost instantly.

Go figure !

No, the areas around the mainland are closed to island placement.

That is a pain, I think LL needs to let that happen in the future. I cannot think this because of technical reasons. I could imagine someone wanting to link a mini-continent of PI's with waters sims to the mainland.

I don't know about technical issues but I believe the primary reason is that it restricts future mainland development if islands cluster too close.

If you look at the Land Store map you can see how they have drawn large borders around the mainland continents.

Sure that makes sense if they plan to expand the mainland but indications seem to be that they create new continents instead. I say let the residents expand what they plonk down in the first place :)

i reckon this will change.
it seems interesting that soon after LL's largely unsuccessful attempt to clean up the mainland, islands and openspaces are not only cheaper, but the purchasing is being fully automated. i reckon LL have come to the conclusion that the concept of mainland just doesnt work anymore, and i fully expect the future to be based upon the idea that residents live on their own private island
From: Darien Caldwell
That's assuming there are refugees. :) with openspaces now $250 to buy and $75 a month, thats putting them in reach of a substantial number of people.

Edit: forgot about the 'you must have an island first' thing. nevermind :)

I frankly think they don't really care if they put the entire land flipper sector out of business

I'll go further and say that the land flipper business is counter to LL's best interests. They make land more expensive, and they make it difficult to acquire large parcels.

Raise prices, people scream. Lower prices, people scream.

This "massive" change is 2 months tier for islands.

Lol, I heard today on a group, someone having to move because their landlord raised the rent to pay for his loss in island value.
I wonder how all those who said they were selling their islands immediately, now feel.

Do I think Caledon will make it? Let me put it this way: there's gonna be a lotta canaries dropping dead in the coalmine before Caledon will feel the effects of a bust economy.

Strong estates and the mainland might do better overall, just by picking up some of the refugees.

Best wishes.
