Hey Rebecca, take the url off the end of your link. It's not working properly.
Just checked out the article. I think it's great and damned honest. As for quirky? I'm quirky, but I'm a Californian. It's the law here.

quirky is most definitely the wrong word. Kinky is much better suited for sl, just remember his cod-piece. I wonder if he showed it to them.

From: Isablan Neva Can you imagine what a new CEO is going to find in Philip's desk drawers when he/she moves into the office? OMG noooo, they will turn around and run. To run that business they are going to have to have a very open mind. The first shock of opening those drawers will tell the tale.

I can see the new CEO coming in with a 'we gotta clean up this place to do anything with it' attitude. So if those quirks dont appeal to corporation I'd be willing to bet you'll see the noose tightening in coming months.

The original article about Philip's resignation called us a "fractious user base" -- I think I'll take quirky over that.

I'd guess "quirky culture" is code for "too much readily available adult content"

Now is he talking about the residents or the hippie crap he let build up in LL headquarters. The "love machine" is mentioned as an example. You got to know the "Tao" will be shredded and used for Raymond's hamster cage.

And the Tao and Love Machine will be thrown out as oppressive instruments of the man!

I don't know about us being "Quirky", but Mitch Kapor did tell the FT recently that the current business model may change from focusing on "early adopter consumers" . He didn't actually say to whom, but it may indicate an emerging opinion within LL that they need to make SL more attractive to the "Not-So Quirky" Also if you're a SL business owner you might be interested to know that Corey Bridges at Multiverse says about SL: ”I don’t think it will be a serious business platform, it was not designed for that, but it can have a long and interesting future as a large Petri dish for user-generated content.” If you've not heard of Multiverse, they're a company who provide the tools and hosting required to build your own virtual world. All on a revenue share basis. Have a look and download the tools at http://www.multiverse.net/FT Story is at: http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/689f9b2a-f315-11dc-b6bc-0000779fd2ac.html

Ain't that the truth. People think SL is weird now, they should have seen it in 2005.... Colette, remember the forum fights about "casual users" who were just here for fun vs "serious users?"

Colette, remember the forum fights about "casual users" who were just here for fun vs "serious users?" Yeah LOL People got down on people who only were consumers too! Like they thought SL could magically manufacture money if everyone had some creative job. But that was minor compared to now. As a whole SL was measurably friendlier than it is today. And many of the quirky were better balanced than the more mainstream people we get nowadays. If I could go back to those days Id give up my flexies and sculpties and go in a heartbeat.
