I want to get a mermaid skin or shape or whatever. I would love to keep my same upper body, but just have the fish part for the bottom. Are any such things available? If so, any reccomendations?

BareRose just released 2 mermaid outfits, complete with AO.

They are both female, but a male version is on its way.

You may also want to contact 3Star Tyne or Manuela Collas. Both are mermaids in SL and develop quality skins and other accessories for mermaids.

good mermaid stuff and a/o. Some wings for pixies and faeries, too.

Em's Mermaid Shop by the Sea. EmeraldEver. Pyeonghwa (27, 180, 25)
Long-time mermaid. Great stuff to get you started. a/o, poses, tails, etc.

This is a stupid question. I know it is, but I'm compelled by some strange force inside me to ask it anyway.

When you're dressed like a mermaid, do you need a special AO for movement? Otherwise, how do you move? Do you have to be underwater or can you flop around on the land? Do you just fly really low? I don't really want to be a merdude, but I'd like to see how it works.

Yes, you need a special AO. When you're on land, it looks like you're floating above the ground. There's some nice bobs, dives and other poses you can get too.

I try not to fly too much in mer form or do a lot of running around on land, it just feels silly.

Of course visit Max Reefs if you want the best SL underwater experience as a mermaid or just to scuba dive (free gear on the docks)...

Don't miss the caves and ruins, there are dive maps on the docks too

Just do a search for reef or Max reefs

Cave Cult at Cave Rua is also very mermaid friendly. Rua (16667, 44, 7). Lots for mermaids to do underwater. Also places to shop. I bought lots of coral and underwater plants here!

Last I checked, Wynx Whiplash offered some really nice AO-loaded mermaid/merman tails.

Please send me an IM in-world and I will introduce you to the absolute best designer I have met in SL. She does incredible mermaids, keeping your upper self, and adding the lower body and tail. I watched her build a custom mermaid just yesterday.
