As above really, I rented a shop yesterday - just to sell off a collection of unwanted furniture after 'downsizing' my home, anyway a full day (and a Saturday too) later despite IM 's to owner I still cannot set out my goods.

Help!

I would love to name the location but I expect it would be pulled.

Any suggestions?

Might be an obvious suggestion, but have you checked the group is not open / free membership? In such a case you can join from the group's drop-down info panel.

Have you attempted to send them a notecard with a LM inside? That helps make it effective they receive your message and you are notified when they accept it.

Sometimes IM can be capped so the mall owner may not see your message. Also be aware that notecards can be accepted automatically so you may need to send it a couple times.

Well, if someone rents from me, I generally send an invite within a few minutes without needing to be prompted(unless it's overnight, when they get added first thing in the morning)....

It is however possible that the owner has missed your IM or their IM's are capped? If so, try giving them a notecard requesting the group invite.

Also, take a look at the group details to see if there is another owner or officer who may be able to invite you to the group.

Send a notecard but a decent mall owner would add free time to your rental period for a delay of that period in adding you.

As an aside, does anyone have any good suggestions as to how and automate this process? Open membership is a definite no no but there should be a better way of doing this. It's a shame that rental boxes can't send group invites.

Suzuki,

Some landlords simply aren't very attentive, or sometimes things just come up.

This is a serious fault in the rental business in SL: you can either set land to universal build, which is more convenient to the tenant but invites abuse, or you set to group-build only, which is a pain in the ass for the tenant if the landlord isn't logged in.

I think it's unfair for tenants to pay for 7 days and only get 6, so I make a partial refund if this ever happens. But most landlords won't do that I'm sure.

Ciaran,

Open membership isn't a definite no no. I've often chosen this as the lesser of two bad situations, and I've had very few incidents.

P.S. Sorry, Ciaran, I was getting open membership mixed up with setting land to open sandbox mode. I think I'd agree with you that open membership to the group is a definite no-no. But the sandbox thing is what works fine for me when I choose that option. Although there's a big abuse risk, there's really very little that can happen that you can't quickly clean up.

I've had mall managers add me before I finished reading the rental notecard. I've also had to wait 3-4 days to be added. Depends on the manager. Personally, I dont get on much during weekend times, but I'm willing to add time to someone's rental if I cause them hardship of more than 24 hours or so.

IM them, give them time.

Else, ask for a refund, or cut your losses, and dont rent there.

it's unfortunate that the landlord has not come inworld to see that someone has rented from them.... i hope they are willing to credit you back the days you paid once they realize their negligence. best of luck!

There's no LSL function that allows you invite an avatar to join a group. Why is that? Because of spam: Imagine a sensor that scans the whole sim inviting each avatar to join a group.

...which in my opinion is the "50 year storm" of griefing incidents. It's up to the individual to decide whether you live your life every day expecting this to happen. I won't, but I also won't blame anyone who does what it takes to protect themselves from it. Maybe I'll change my opinion if/when it happens to me.

actually there is a way to automatically invite someone to group by clicking object
11-03-2007 15:32
Wietse Cassini has developed a way to automate the group invite process

I use it at my Gesture Store it works well most of the time... A few SL related issues
But seems to work pretty well so far

All someone does is click the sign and a few seconds later they get a group Invite

Kurt, automatic group invite is what we don't want, unless it can be in return for a rental payment. If that's possible, then problem solved.

Nina, I like your idea too, but I'm curious how you convey that information to the renter? (I've had very few renters ever read a notecard).

You might want to also try looking at the Owner's profile and the group's charter. They might mention some other person you can request an invite from. Also if you look in the group member list you can see if there are other people highlighted as officers or owners. Although a lot of places usually just have one person running the show.

Another day dawns and the 'impatiant renter' is still not able to use what she has paid for.

The owner is off line all the time. The group is not listed. There is nothing of any use in her profile.

Not happy and hesitant to rent somewhere else in case a) this suddenly resolves itself, or b) this happens again.

Perhaps it is an idea to im the person before you pay to make sure they are around.

I once paid a rental box a months rent, receipt flashed up, funds left my account, but the rental box did not update but that is another story...

Most landlords will be fairly prompt about service, but you need to give them a chance. Sometimes things happen irl that keep them out of the game.

Dropping a notecard is the best idea if you haven't done that yet, and ask for some credit for the unusable days.

Open up the profile, and drag a notecard to the slot in their profile where it says to drop an inventory item.

Inventory>Create>New Note

Make sure you rename the notecard something relevant in inventory too, by right-clicking and selecting 'Rename.' Then, what Cristalle said. :)

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.
