From: Imnotgoing Sideways I meet new people all the time, there's almost always something to do, and the girl I like hasn't taken out a restraining order against me yet. (^_^)y That's just cause the judge said if I ever even got close to the courthouse again, he would outlaw chocolate.. ;P

1) SL is a creative canvas, 2) it is fascinating game, 3) it is a place to socialise, and 4) it is a masturbation toy. Not necessarily in that order, and with somewhat blurred boundaries.

"These days conversation isn't at all easy to find in SL. I'm very disappointed."
I find SL to be this way too - everytime I try to talk with someone - all they want is 'sex' and then get mad that I don't want to have sex with them 'just like that' -- as if talking to me was a waste of their time... am I hanging out in the wrong places? LoL I'm very new to SL so I don't know good hang out places, I just explore til I find people --

Boy, I'm gonna come back to this thread a few times. But why am I here? Hmmm. Well, I thought it might be an outlet for my creative talents.

* Is Second Life a social extension of RL or other online social interfaces (ie facebook, forums, BBSs etc.)? No. For me, SL is a seperate social experience. None of my avatars represent the "Real Me".
* Is SL a creative outlet? Very much so. I am a very active content creator, and most of my SL related time is spent building or creating textures for SL. What is left beyond that is a different form of creativity, social interaction via fictional roleplay.
* Have your reasons for being in SL changed over time? Well, I came here first and foremost to continue a RP relationship that started outside SL, but in an equally fictional setting. But it immediately became apparent that I needed an "income" to stay here, so I turned my creative talents to the task of making my in-world efforts pay for all my in-world expenses. And very successfully.
* Are you here for fun, RP, sex, and/or relationship? There's a few relationships that, if they did not exist, would probably leave me with little reason to come here for anything else. My three best "on-line friends" are all here, as my primary way to interact with them. If all three of them left SL, I probably would, as well. But I also do find the creative activities as a content creator to be fulfilling in itself, and fun for me.
*Are you fulfilling some void from your RL (relationship, hobby, sexual experimentation etc.)? I recognize that sometimes we are in a situation where for whatever reason (geography, opportunity etc.) we cannot explore certain interests in RL and SL gives us that opportunity. A little. Certainly some of the intimate activities I and my alts indulge in here are things I don't choose to try to do in real life. And to an extent my ficttional roleplayed "relationships" allow me to fill a void that would be there if I remained as monogamous on-line as I am in real life.
*Why are you here? Mostly, to be with a small group of special friends, and to be creative.

Sorry, LL won't let me tell you where I sell my textures and where I offer my services as a sim builder. Ask me in-world.

I was a refugee from another online world. Host of reasons for that but the big one was a family member who was recovering from a head injury was being griefed so badly in that other place that it was actually setting her back (it had previously been aiding in the recovery of her mental faculties).
I came here. Went premium day 2. got my first land. Sold my first land day 4. Bought a larger plot day 5. Then brought that family member here day 7 after I had prepared a place for her. Inside 2 years of SL and learning to build and texture she recovered 98% of her mental capacity when the doctors only expected her to EVER recover 35%.
Over time 70+ other family members joined us and we became something of our own little community. I still love to build, script, animate. But mostly I love seeing my family discover this wonderful place.

I was curious about SL after reading about a couple who met on SL, divorced their RL spouses, and got married in SL and RL. I wondered what could be in a game that would make someone go to such limits. Anyway, prompted me to peek in to see what all the comotion was about. Once I got here, I was amazed by the creativity and how much fun it was meeting new people and exploring. Now, after several years I still love it, but primarily come on for a couple of good friends, and the live music---I love following the live music events and usually spend my evenings bouncing from one artist to another--It's great to see new talent coming on all the time. PS, if you haven't heard Karter Stonehouse you are missing out BTW--SL is good, but if I was married, still don't think I would leave my husband for an avitar

I was writing a political paper, i think on interest group politics, and i came across a listing of articles with one of them being a write up on a virtual world called Second Life. So, after my paper was done, i went back to the link, followed it, logged in and let my husband have my account because i didn't like anything. Then after 2 days and I saw him playing bimbo barbie with my avatar, i took it back and made myself an Elf!
For me (Bipolar-agoraphobic) SL is an extension of RL. It is therapeutic and provides me with many aspects of reality that I cannot experience.
I am here for socializing, creative expression, fun, sex, relationships, and to fill a void in my RL relationship.

Why am I here?
Goodness! I wish I knew!
It seemed like a good idea at the time, so I joined.
It was very immersive, so I got caught.
I'm still learning new things all the time, so I stay.
