SLCC - Second Life Community Conventiion San Francisco, CA | August 13-16, 2009 http://www.slconvention.org 1. It's being hosted in the same city as Linden Lab Headquarter's! 2. San Francisco is (according to Hell's Kitchen) the top culinary city in the country. 3. The Westin St. Francis is a gorgeous venue! 4. Thee first 200 tickets are being sold at only $135 USD! 5. Meet your SL friends and colleagues in living color! 6. Meet some of your favorite Lindens! 7. Get away from Second Life for a few days and come to real life (??) 8. A great opportunity to network your business an ideas! 9. A great opportunity to get away alone or with the family and just relax! 10. Learn and participate in resident-run panels and workshops! I posted this because after conducting a survey of 400 SL residents I found that approximatley 94 percent of them didn't know about SLCC. So...do YOU know about SLCC?

/me wonders what (commercial?) reason prompted the OP to reappear in the forum after more than a year's absence.

Going to *SL*CC is not getting away from Second Life. It is bringing SL fully into your first life. No thanks, the lines are blurred enough as it is.

Ah yes, that decision went down a storm, so much so that other residents formed their own get together in Vegas!

Top 10 reasons NOT to attend SLCC
04-10-2009 06:06
1. It's being hosted in the same city as Linden Lab Headquarter's! (I'd rather have it done in Sin City)
2. San Francisco is (according to Hell's Kitchen) the top culinary city in the country. (and Hell's Kitchen is the top culinary expert???)
3. The Westin St. Francis is a gorgeous venue! (So is the Alamo.)
4. Thee first 200 tickets are being sold at only $135 USD! (Not to mention the cost of a plane ride... *smirk*)
5. Meet your SL friends and colleagues in living color! (OMG...NOOOOOO!!!!! They'd see me too...and I don't have my HUDs)
6. Meet some of your favorite Lindens! (My favorite Lindens lie in the upper-right hand corner of my screen $L)
7. Get away from Second Life for a few days and come to real life (That's overrated)
8. A great opportunity to network your business an ideas! (Huh?)
9. A great opportunity to get away alone or with the family and just relax! (See No.7 above)
10. Learn and participate in resident-run panels and workshops! (Wait, huh, what..."work"shops? I thought the whole point was to have a vacation.)

No, I don't think so...

1. It's being hosted in the same city as Linden Lab Headquarter's! And I would spend far more time enjoying the City than I would secluded inside the SLCC site. 2. San Francisco is (according to Hell's Kitchen) the top culinary city in the country. Quite true! Wonderful restaurants, with seafood to die for, and wonderful pubs and bars and nightclubs too. Quite sure I'd put on several pounds if I went. 3. The Westin St. Francis is a gorgeous venue! Also true. And an expensive one. I've stayed there before. 4. Thee first 200 tickets are being sold at only $135 USD! Plus air fare, plus hotel accommodations, (Since $135 USD won't buy you one single night at the Westin, even at the most favorable Corporate discount rates, let alone a three to four night stay.), plus meals at those wonderful restaurants, plus souveniers from Fisherman's Wharf and other tourist sites. Could easily cost thousands of USD per person by the time each individual adds it all up. 5. Meet your SL friends and colleagues in living color! And show them all what the cute three-tailed vixen really looks like? No thanks. I play in SL to be Ceera, and to socialize with my mostly furry friends in SL, not to be my real self and get chummy with other Resident's real selves. Besides, none of them would recognize me without my fur. Should I attend in a Fursuit? Add several thousand dollars to get one custom made for a cute three-tailed vixen... 6. Meet some of your favorite Lindens! Do they listen any better in person? Somehow, I doubt it. And honestly while there are one or two, like Torley and Data, who I wouldn't mind encountering, in the current situation, with mandates that they are forcing people to comply with for reasons that they refuse to honestly elaborate on, meeting and talking to most of them would probably be a much more stressful than relaxing situation. 7. Get away from Second Life for a few days and come to real life (??) Yet another reason to spend the time sightseeing... Also, attending would mean leaving behind spouse, child, and several pets, who would have nothing to do there but spend lots of money playing SF tourist activities, mostly without me. 8. A great opportunity to network your business an ideas! Possibly, among the residents I might meet there. 9. A great opportunity to get away alone or with the family and just relax! Would pretty much have to be without my spouse or kid, since they don't do SL. For them it would be like attending a business conference on programming in Swahili. Nothing to attract them but the town itself. 10. Learn and participate in resident-run panels and workshops! Perhaps useful. But I doubt it would outweigh the negatives.
So no, balancing the pro's and Cons' I don't plan to attend.

Just wondering. Since a lot of people go to Sci Fi conventions dressed as their favorite characters, do people go to the SL Convention dressed as Ruth?

Does anyone know if there are kiosks available yet to promote the event? Would be good to get those out at high traffic locations....
