http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toilet
That has to be the most amusing Wikipedia entry I have ever read. Just for the record, I was bought up to say toilet at home, but my grandmother would tell me NEVER to say that word in public, because it was 'horribly middle class'. Apparently the preferred word is 'loo' - as lavatory is also middle-class and pretentious to boot. Despite the film 'Robin Hood - Men in Tights', where they declare that English people will forever call the loo 'the john' (after King John) - we hardly ever use that term here. Bog, lav, khazi and 'smallest room' are also used, but I think my dear old nan would have had a fit at my using any of them, hehe _____________________

No, no, you misunderstand. In America, people have sex EVERYWHERE. Land of the free, you know... But while we're exploring odd etymologies, whence comes the term, "loo"? I understand it to be derived from a shout of "gardez lous" (lous being a corrupt form of vous) which meant "watch out" in the days when chamber pots were emptied into the streets from upstairs bedroom windows in towns. The first part was lost and the end of the phrase was retained as a description of somewhere that you dump your bodily excretions. Pep (Does that sound convincing?) _____________________

We always called it the 'bathroom' (usually the room has both a bathtub and a toilet), I have an elderly aunt who calls it the WC (for 'water closet') and a friend from Ohio who calls it the 'basement' which always made me giggle. My father was a navy man, for him it was 'the head'. Sorry for going off topic but I think the OP's question was answered up above already ![]() _____________________

In England a 'bathroom' is a room with (wait for it) the bath in it In America it appears to mean a room with a toilet in it In England a 'toilet block' is a small block of (wait for it) toilets - usually for pubilc usage In America it appears to mean somewhere people have sex? Forgive me for seeming a bit imperial and all that, but what on earth happened to the meanings of bath and toilet as they crossed the Atlantic????? And many houses have toilets in bathrooms, but it's a pain much better to have them seperate so someone can shower in peace ![]() Yeah, I've had sex in a bathroom shower cubicle and there was a toilet in the same room, does that count as kinky? _____________________

LOL, well in Oz it can be called a bathroom, WC, toilet, loo, boghouse, dunny, thunderbox, throneroom, and more, we don't get hung up on specific names. And many houses have toilets in bathrooms, but it's a pain much better to have them seperate so someone can shower in peace ![]() Yeah, I've had sex in a bathroom shower cubicle and there was a toilet in the same room, does that count as kinky? will anyone who has NOT had sex in the shower please raise their hand? _____________________
