I need some creative inspiration here... What do you get for the avatar who has everything (and if he doesn't, will buy it)? This avatar is currently SL homeless, so stuff for the household is out, which makes it more difficult.

I'm thinking maybe some brilliant but lesser-known gadget, but I don't know any brilliant but lesser known gadgets. I just know the Mysti Tool, and he's got one of those.

What would (or did) you do for your hard-to-buy-for SL friends?

I saw a gift in a shop the other day which I think would be great in SL.
It was basically a clear plastic hollow sphere with nothing in it. It said (roughly) : 'A gift for the person who has everything. Give them NOTHING' 'This gift is NOTHING, If it does anything at all we will give you a complete refund. We will also eat our hats.'

hehe I thought it was great!

How about making a personal card for that person?
I received an incredibly beautiful personal card from someone with a very lovely message, best gift so far.
:)

Not to hijack but since it may sort of go together... how do you pack your gift once you've got it? I just somehow lost a $500 L leather coat that didn't make it into a gift box...

And the Multi-Tool is a great idea!

As for the OP - Since he or she already has everything - stick to stuff u know they have and get semi similar- i.e. if she has a lot of say, ball gowns - then she likes ball gowns, get her a really fantastic one. I know a bit of a cop out- but at least you know she will like it. Same for guys -

A gift certificate to one of your friend's favorite shops, or a shop that carries their favorite type of items. Especially in SL with a "no returns" policy I think gift certificates are great ideas! :)

Great idea!! Create an alt, give it some money, cloths, good skin and hair, then give the user name and password to your friend. Your friend can change the password afterward

Other than being a TOS violation...

I think I'll pass on the TOS violation. But I am starting to think about clothes. Not as creative a gift as I had hoped, but useful, since I'm not sure how to locate the World's Coolest Gadget That All Avatars Need.

Maybe Brenda's onto something with the shoes....

i still would personally find a nice lil apartment or condo with a few hundred prims and pay a month or so of rent on it in their name then take them to it and say welcome home happy holidays

I have no use for an Alt. I'd definitely prefer the Shoes. The apartment is good idea too.

It's a simple to use web based interface that lets you send IMs to residents inworld without logging on to SL.

Amongst other things it comes in handy if you've planned a wedding and can't logon while your partner is hanging on wondering what happened to you.

I recommend tp-ing over to chuginadak 229, 247 and touching one of the communicators... that will give you a code that you can use to authenticate your messages.

There is also a cool HUD attachment for reading these forums while in game.

I like the idea of a night out or something like that. In RL, I like experiences more than stuff - I buy whatever I need when I need it rather than waiting, so I never really need anything when Christmas or Birthdays come about. I'd much prefer time spent with friends and loved ones doing something fun. Same goes for SL, I suppose.

Maybe make up a notecard that's a coupon for a night out doing something you know he enjoys, then set a date and go hang out.

Why don't you buy something that is modify/transfer and then customize it to him? Like attach a prim with his name on it.

Off topic reply (sorry) - one of my customers did this; they dragged the items from Inventory *onto* the box, rather than using the Edit window and dragging into the Contents tab. So the gift ended up in one of the ribbons, not the main prim.

Try going in to Edit, Clicking the 'Edit Linked Parts' button, then click on each ribbon in turn and check the Contents Tab.

If you find your missing coat, drag it back into Inventory.

Then un-check the 'Edit linked parts' button (so you have the whole box selected again) and drag the coat into the Contents.

Hope you find it!

Have you looked at the pets from Zooby's lately? Besides the wearable hummingbird who hovers round your head, they have pretty yellow and chocolate labs who follow you about, lie down, and do other pleasant doggy things... other breeds too.

If you're the DIY type, you might try something I did for some friends once and kind of wish I'd done more of - a picture-changing frame.

It requires a smidge of building talent, a texture-changing script, and photos or textures - of the friend, of places you've been together, of neat things that might look good on their walls.... whatever suits you or you think might suit them.

Unique, customizable, and very personal! (I just wish I'd remember to take pictures every so often so I could do this for more of my friends!)

I don't know if it's the sort of thing you're thinking of, but I sell a Steam Powered Ectoplasmic Newt Summoner in my store (details in sig) that I market as being "For the Avatar who has everything". It makes interesting noises, produces steam, has blinkenlights and Things That Go Up And Down, and it emits ghostly newts when touched which then dash about madly for a minute or so before vanishing in a puff of sparkles. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but I find that folk who like it tend to like it a *lot*. :-)

One of the sweetest gifts I ever received from a friend was a simple prim with a notecard giving script. When I touched the prim I got a note from my friend telling me all the reasons why they were happy I was in their life.

That is one gift I will keep forever. :)

edited for afterthought (so like me):
You could make the prim a holiday ornament of some sort. If you are not handy with building and texturing... look for one that is modifiable.
