2 more crazy ideas to toss into the hat:

> "CX's Auto Mile"!! Make a vehicle mall (or even sim), where makers of all types of vehicles have stores/vendors. Just the motorcycle shops alone would fill an entire corridor. Hairspray, a full sim of women's hair stores, is very successful ... you could talk to ... oh, I forget her name but she's very approachable .. about how she put it together.

> Make your own volkswagen-inspired set of vehicles. Volkswagen cannot object if you simply say your SL cars are "inspired" by them; and SL constraints will force them to be a little different anyway.

Actually I have started on the first idea. I traveled to several auto show rooms and offered to display thier cars for free so I could have some displays on my land. The first guy offered me a 10% commission on any cars sold from my place. The second guy offered me a demo car to display.

Actually I could make FVs, Sambas, Transporters, Things, 130s, 1300s and other obsolete models since VWoA has disavowed all those models.

In case I forgot to say it. Thanks for the support.

I must say I followed this thread since the begining, and was curious about how it ends, personally I want to learn how to build something and sell it but I didn't had yet the inspiration to have an unique business. Anyway, I'm very glad to see that you had some luck and it your business might have a turn over... it gives me some hope in the future

I still haven't made the first Linden, but the Froum Cartel members came through with some products and vendors and I feel better not looking at an empty mall full of rental boxes.

CCTV and 3Ring both have some nice stuff.

There is a beautiful BMW with turn table on my roof!!

I didn't read all the posts...

The search system is broken, it should work with votes and not by population.
Anyone interested in starting a business will end up at the very end of the list because it's new and there isn't many people there. While big places offer camping services and even though they might be at the top of the list because of the 'population' their items might actually be way uglier than yours.

My brother (both RL and SL) is a great scripter / builder, but he gave up on his business because of the way the search system works. It's not worth it unless you can become part of a very CAMPED mall.

I've found the best items in small stores that will probably never appear in the first pages of search results. I'm starting to think people have more luck selling on slexchange.com than selling in-game. Which sucks because I really love shopping in-game.

I have been in SL as a Premium member for 60 days tomorrow.

I still haven't recieved my $L1500 bonus.

I have been to and joined 2 RPG areas only to find the people there don't RP even though there are strict rules about it.

My land / shop / mall gets about 1 visitor per day. (I don't support campers.)

I haven't rented or sold a single item.
(land is posted in search engine, plus classifieds in other forums)

The only people answering my classifieds are people wanting to panhandle money out of me.

The only people that seem to have income in SL
1. Cheating people.
2. Renting out island sims and then taking the land back. (see #1)
3. Female escorts
4. $L300 that SL pays premium members.

Last night I worked 3 hours on an original script from scratch. (about 10 lines) I was booted out of SL four times. The script would never work in the original object where I created it. I finally had to create a different object and rewrite the script. On weekends especially Sundays I constantly get booted out or crash.

My experience has been disappointing to say the least. I really don't see myself staying in SL much longer. If my company decides to use me as a SL resource I'll remain in that capacity only.

Wow been here 18 months and made near nothing didn't realise you could make a living in 60 days :)
Seriously everyone and their dog is in the markets you mentioned, the moneymakers are the creators, and of course the exploiters and cheats.................
Oh didn't realise you made cars, how come I haven't found your vehicles in my searches, hmm maybe because it's been a few months since I went car shopping :)

I don't make cars... except in RL. I knit VWs. I take old rusted hulks and restore them into solid drivable cars. It takes a bunch of welding to patch up the rust holes and replace floor pans. (Just watch SPIKE TV on weekends around noon time)

My mall in San Gabriele only has a bunch of vendor boards displayed. No mall renters. I can't even give away space. I have built a product, a rotating sign board that almost any one else with a bit of skill could build just as well. I actually sold one.

I have a bunch of land in Fenland West and I am working on an idea for that place as well since it is a large flat area. So I am staying with SL for a while. I probably won't make any money in SL but I am having fun.

I do have some good friends I have met and that accounts for my benefit from SL.

Something I'm quite surprised hasn't been mentioned:

Have you considered putting some of your items up for sale in SLExchange or OnRez? If you don't know what they are, I'm sure someone here would be happy to tell you about them. A lot of people have gotten a good bit of in-world business from putting their SLURL in those ads, and you could get some direct sales that way.

As far as the "harsh posts" go, I think we have a thread here with a _reasonable_ OP, who doesn't take offense at the slightest criticism, unlike some others. Quite a refreshing difference, IMO. Makes for a much nicer thread overall.

Whatever you decide to do, good luck with your mall/whatever. Hope things pick up for you!

Thanks for the good words. I do have items listed on SLEX and I am getting ready for OnRez listings.

Thanks again,
