Remember how when you were 5 and when girl's liked You they punched You? Well I have grown out of that phase and just punch the people around You now.

I was going to say I fight my own battles, but if there is a possibility of it turning into a catfight, I'm all for it.

In seriousness, I've received a lot of assistance and was surprised to find a number of you sending me helpful tidbits in SL which really made my get that (sickening) warm and fuzzy feeling...

It's this element that turns my frown upside down.

Thank you all!

LL depends on you buying land to survive, yet does little to help you negotiate the process. The experiece you had is proof they need to work on their communications. As if we needed more proof of that.

Heh, Heh, what communications? I always understood that communication required a two way exchange, something that these days seems to exist with Lindens only under the rarest of circumstances.

Well, not sure if I should create a whole new post for this but since this thread has given me so much help and I'm the OP for this thread I figured what the heck - let's keep it together here...

Ok, so I have another couple questions but these are related to me building on my land once I've chosen it. Since I have no real control over what is built/displayed on the land around me, I'm visualizing two options here...

The first is building a perfectly shaped box with thin walls that takes up the entire width and length of my land and on the inside making a home that I can teleport into and out of. Ok, not so much grandiose on the scenery, but still grants me privacy and security.

I've noticed talk of and witnessed "sky boxes" so I'm wondering as well, why couldn't I just buy a small cheap 512 SQ. M. plot of land and then build a really fancy vertical sky box, maybe multiple levels even, way the heck up high above the clouds. Again, kinda lame on the scenery but granting me a far better "view" than being surrounded by uncontrollable neighbors.

Just some thoughts and possibilities and I'd appreciate other's input on the feasibility. The first item regarding the sealed box came to mind after I encountered exactly that - a beautiful tall thin building surrounded by spinning advertisements and the structure had no discernible entrance whatsoever. On the minimap though I could see three or four people inside of the structure...

A lot of people who dislike the scenery do tend to build houses somewhere hidden in the clouds, and its easy to find free, or fairly cheap houses for this exact purpose. When You choose/build your new home keep the prim limit in mind. A 512 meter lot allows You to have 117 prims. Running out of prims when your just getting started is frustrating, so try to find low prim items before you start. To see the number of prims an item has, just right click it select edit in the pie menu, and prim count will be on the first page. I used to have a white picket fence sized exactly to a 512 meter lot if you need one. I'm sure its floating around my inventory somewhere. I'm sure I also have a good hand full of freebie 512 sized prefab house and skyboxes if you need them just im me in world. You can also find a ton of 512 meter sized free house on slexchange.com, or at any freebie place in world although slexchange tends to have the most to choose from.

I just noticed that a bunch of land is up for sale in Vyacheslav. It's not unreasonable.

Minor word of warning here....... the view up in the sky is also uncontrollable...... Where we are, the sky is almost worse than the ground level these days.
Junkyard is possibly the best way to describe the state of things at about 500 metres, potentially up and coming junkyard at around 300 metres.
Possible reason to stay up in the sky is to create some privacy with a security orb and not have banlines up, so people can still cross the land freely.
And then reduce your view distance in the sky to something where you don't see the junk :)

prime example of this tactic below.
after the plot sole, a cube went onto the adplot saying 'to make this land usable, buy me for 16,000.'
always turn property lines on when hunting for land.

From: Har Fairweather
One danger reported on this forum that might not crop up with a 512m but worth watching for: Seller sells the property, but not the 4 sq. m. or 16 sq. m. parcel he has thoughtfully carved out of the center of it, making it virtually useless unless you pay umpteen gazillion L$ for the hole in your donut of a property.

Besides land sharks, there are also land skunks...

Dispicable. This is the worst "business" practice in SL. Please IM me the avatar's name.

Don't doubt the big hearts, lot of them here in the forums.

With that said, I disapprove of forum groups. Many times threads get turned into nothing but a big IM session, so a group thing is not so bad for that case. However, many times, newer folks feel like they must belong to the group if they want to fit in, which is certainly not the case.

The view gets boring up there after a while.
