Did I miss the thread?

My ISP was down this morning until about ten minutes ago... and I came back to the rather sad news that four officers of the Forum Cartel are standing down.


I would first like to say thank you to the four people concerned, for their work running the organization of what was a New Thing (as far as I know) in SL, a place where forum members could meet. I would also wish the new people all the best with taking the reins.


I just wondered ... why? Did I miss the thread?

Weird I had to go to group notices to see this, it didn't get sent to me on login.

I didnt even know there was a place where forum posters met inworld short of looking up names for a project.

A little over a year ago, about a half dozen people met at my home to put faces to forum names. That was the beginning of the Forum Cartel. Over the months that followed, the goup grew and expanded, land was bought, a community hangout was built, and all the usual events that occur when humans are involved transpired. It was a bumpy journey at times but friendships were formed and solidified, and something special came from it. But things change, and people change.

Effective Immediately, Chris Norse and I are stepping down as Owners of The Cartel. Additionally, Trout Reacreant and Oryx Tempel are also resigning their Officer Roles at this time.

In a way, we were A Gang of Four, so there is a sort of Symmetry in this. The future of the Cartel is now in the hands of LittleMe and Garrett. May they build upon what has been set down and make it greater.

I'm sure Chris won't mind me pondering that this bunch are a tad left wing for his tastes. I always thought David Owen was a pretty cool customer, although if he was made of chocolate, he'd eat himself.

No big deal really. While each of us has reasons, it was essentially just time for a change, or as they say in business "To persue other interests".

Thanks Brenda... i was just intrigued. If i went into work tomorrow and my boss, his deputy, his secretary and the manager had all quit, i would be pretty worried.

QFT. Just stepping aside to give myself a little more time and to let Garrett and LittleMe run things. They are very well equipped to do so and I wish them the best. No drama, no thread, nothing going on to warrant any drama.



lol - but we don't write your paycheck every month, either! Thanks for the kind words, Imogen. The Hangout Project was awfully fun to coordinate and it was nice to be able to sit back and watch the truly talented people make it come together. There were some doubts in the beginning, but we made it happen and I'm very proud of my part in it. I think it will continue to be a great place for everyone to hang out at for a long time to come.

Hmmm...On second thought, I like your analogy. Can I be the deputy? I'm less likely to be shot by a Rastafarian that way.

I don't get many of my group notices these days and have just gotten into the habit of checking all of my groups every time I log on and periodically while logged in -- I was logged on and knew the notice was coming and still did not receive it.




"The Forum Cartel" is the inworld group that owns the land. You can search for that group or see my Picks for the Hangout location -- it is in Allana, but I do not have a Slurl handy right now. If you would like an invite to the group, send an IM to myself or Garrett Laramide - we will likely open it back up soon to open enrollment, but it is currently set to 'invite only'.




I am very grateful for what Chris, Brenda, Oryx, and Trout created - the Hangout and the group have truly become my SL home and family. I am glad they are staying in the group and hope they continue to come to the Hangout often.

There are so many others that had a hand in that, especially the building of the hangout, many who don't come here much any more. I was a skeptic of the project, but was proven wrong. They all deserve applause.

Zap, Mal, Lexxi, Raymond, Marty Starbrook, Inc Merlin, the entire building crew.......too many to remember

Just a wild guess, but I would say that after a year's worth of labor they were feeling the burn out that comes with voluntary positions. What ever drama de jur was the trigger really does not matter. Sometimes you just need a break.

Thank you, Brenda, Oryx, Chris and Trout, for building one of the friendliest places in SL. You should all be very proud of the work you have done. I, for one, have throughly enjoyed the fruits of your labor.

Wow - never knew so many were involved. I do now remember Marty's name, but mostly cuz so much of the building belongs to him. My hat is off to all those that created that wonderful place.

I thank all of you. My life, SL and RL, is richer for your efforts.

Whenever I went there it was empty, but I did like the cats.

My contribution, for the most part, other than being involved in the initial bouncing around of the concept, was to stay out of the way and let it happen.

For a group that has grown to this size, there have been really very few issues, little drama, and as has been mentioned, many bonds and friendships formed that will last a long time.

Everyone is to be commended for having a part in building up this little community - that means everyone, even if all you've contributed was your presence (that's an indispensable contribution)

Not sure what Chris will be doing next, but Brenda is moving on now to begin her new community development project - The Shoes Cartel.

I'll reiterate what I responded to Brenda's original message about this: Thank you all for making the Hangout, which I hope will continue to espouse the spirit of openness, friendliness, and helpfulness that you instilled in it.

It really has built community among the forum folks, and I think we can all be proud of that!

I returned (somewhat uncertainly) to SL and found eventually found myself in the Hangout - not to put too fine a point on it, it was responsible for me deciding to stick around and have a "Third" life.

So a heartfelt thank you from me to those "originals" that had the vision to kick it off, to all the others who worked to make it happen, and to everyone who goes along to make it what it is today. Chris I know a little bit, Trout, Brenda and Oryx I've seen a few times, but I really hope you all continue be a part of what you created.
