I'm not a gamer, but that is the smoothest and least invasive mocap control I've ever seen.

/me wonders what this (edit: this = the camera they used to control SL) will mean for animators - could this be cheap mocap coming soon?

I've yet to find anywhere that names a price for this camera.

Very cool!

Poor man's mocap was my first thought as well. But really, there are so many possibilities for this concept. From real time emotive expression, to RSI relief, to better access for the handicapped, etc., I could probably think of a thousand highly useful applications just off the top of my head.

I'm not sure I see the accessibility benefit here. If you're wheelchair bound the standing up part might be tricky.

Hehe...now all we need is a merging of SL and wii...... and 'we'll all be playing rugby matches in our livingrooms.

Seriously tho......think about what this indicates in the long haul.....a step closer to full immersion into a virtual world. For now I prefer sitting at my desk cause it'd be a pian focusing on the screen while standing at a distance 'navigating' my avatar. But....give me an 8x10 projector screen and some cool interaction (perhaps not rugby) and I wouldn't have to ever worry about my morning exercise routine again.

Very wild stuff. Watched a few of the other videos too..... gees...look at Philip he's such a (rather cute) pup....to think I had this concept in my head back when AOL and Prodigy were competing with chat rooms 15 some odd years ago.......I shoulda ran with it~!! It was MY idea I tell you.....mine mine mine! LOL

Wow I was wondering how they would type without a keyboard, seems you have that worked out ok

It really needs a glove with buttons or hand controllers still to replace mouse clicks, alt/ctrl keys etc, no point in going totally buttonless, even a hand held mouse to control camera etc.
Althouth camera is one thing that would work really well easily with somthing that just followed your head tilt of tilt sensors.
I can also unfortunately imagine the cybering uses of this ! LOL
