From: Kalderi Tomsen Then please log in to the JIRA system and vote for the issue - the link was given above. Let's try to raise it above the noise of the crowd in there. I can't believe that in its simplest form it is difficult to make happen. So far there are three votes, which doesn't add up to the people saying they like it in here, considering the creator gets a vote I just voted. Looks like there's a lot of votes now. Keep voting!

From: Subversive Vavoom The new subscription methods for releasing product announcements are far superior to using/creating groups and asking customers to join them. Ohh this sounds like something I haven't heard of yet. Could someone let me in on what this means, how it works, and how I get a hold of it, please? Thanks

Here is the name of one known gadget: Synthetik Subscribe-O-Matic there are others out there though... i have a friend who's working on one that i'll be using for my store. I'm sure you will find several of these at varying prices over the next few months. They simply allow shoppers to touch your poster, subscribing to this service of free info and updates without joining a group, and then 'mail out' to your list through web controls so that you can handle it all offline. One major designer i know who's using it is Ginny Talamasca at Last Call last time i was there. Seems to be the best solution.

From: Kalderi Tomsen Another dumb question - apologies in advance.... I own a group that we use for our customers. We have promised that we will use it only for announcements and won't be spamming them (I get tired of 20 messages a day from some clubs repeating the same announcement over and over again). So here is my question - is there any way to disable group Chat, so that people don't get annoyed by the more "chatty members"? Or maybe limit it to the owners of the group, and not "everybody"? Answers will be appreciated in a way yes: 1)Have it displayed in the group's charter that the group is for announcements only, anything beyond that needs to be taken into your own private chat. 2) if someone is known for constantly ignoring repeated warnings, kick them out. i know its a bit harsh, but consider the advertising for other buisnesses thing that was happening, once many of the posters were kicked out of groups for spamming, it stopped.

The first is making shoes at night while, you know, while the old cobbler sleeps. You can bake cookies in a tree. But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

From: Callila Lilliehook I have been wondering for sometime now and this seems like a really good time to ask. What is the big deal that people have with chatting in a group. Groups are collections of people that share a common interest and chatting about that common interest is what they do in group chat. For a 'world' that is supposed to promote sharing and the convergence of ideas there sure is a ton of 'STOP SPAMMING' the the GROUP CHATs. My opinion, if you don't like the chat that people are doing in the GROUP then ignore it. Typing tons of 'stop spamming' and then having multiple people do the same is doing nothing more than the spamming about which people are complaining.
Don't like it, ignore it and move one. I agree Callila in that when others respond with "stop spamming!" that's just as annoying. But, I have to agree with some of the others; It's just not that easy to ignore - it is very intrusive and irritating, especially if I am at an event or trying to build or whatever. I don't mind if the group notice is brief and has some valuable content. But that yelling over and over "COME TO OUR EVENT, IT'S HAPPENING RIGHT NOW!, etc, is just too much. Yes, I have left a few groups for this reason, and I ignore when I can. But, I'm pretty sure that most group channels are not really meant for all that chattiness, unless they are created for specifically for that, as are a couple that I belong to. But in those groups, the spamming doesn't seem to happen much. *shugs* Go figure. my 2 cents Sol

From: Qie Niangao No way now. There's at least one jira, asking for this, though: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-731. (It seems like a very desirable extension of Group functionality, but only has one vote at the moment, so maybe there are others lurking somewhere, waiting to be linked together.) MISC-731 was going to get ignored, so I converted it to a subtask of MISC-64, which is the big Group IM/Chat issue, since it's basically asking for a refinement of the roles regarding group chat.

This is sort of on topic, since it relates to group spams. I can't deal with them. I just can't. I know a lot of you can multi-task and have multiple IM windows open, but I just can't do it. The other night I had three open at once and all of a sudden someone started sending pictures. Then a group started a chat and that popped up. I just melted down. I couldn't see my screen because I was accepting the pictures; people were asking me questions and I couldn't answer because every time I tried, something else popped up. I swear, I almost had an anxiety attack of some sort.
On the other hand, I have carried on a normal conversation with someone who has multiple other IM windows open and is following the open chat at wherever we are. It makes my head explode to think about it, but it's no problem for her.
Maybe I'm not that bright. I wish I knew how you people pull that stunt off.

Group Im Weirdness'
10-19-2007 14:02
A) I have 2 groups that regularly see chat. one if I close it, stays closed, and the other if I close it, pops back with the next IM... the second one seem to be a bigger group (never checked the stats) B) when getting group chat from larger groups, sometimes I'll experience heavy lag, where even the UI is slow to respond... close big group chat, poof, lag is instantly gone what's almost worst than spam iin anouncment groups? joining an actual social chat group, and having some twit popo up with "quit spammming me" or my favorite, "that's not on topic" for general social groups) It just amazes me that people don't read charters... if you get invited to a group, the group window should pop up if you accept, and I swear it should have an "I agree" button on it (pathetic I know)
