This is a great thread! I have avoided working with gestures, too, only because I thought they were too complicated for my pea brain. Well, maybe they still are, but now I have some information to work with!

I have a question: In the drop-down list of animations, how come some of the animations in my inventory don't show up? I'm not sure, but they might be no-copy animations that aren't visible on that list. Would that mean you can't use no-copy animations in gestures?

That would be NOT a good thing!

I believe that you can only include animations for which you have full permissions. So only those (and the SL built in animations) show up in the list.

If you want examples of (1) text substitution and (2) script control, cut & paste this link into your browser:

Page might take a while to load due to the demand created by my half-naked avatar in the same shot. :D

In a nutshell:

(1) Anime Wink uses the 'Replace With' field. Once activated, everytime user types a regular wink, it will be replaced with one in the anime format.

(2) Most AOs can be enabled/disabled by typing '/1 ao on' and '/1 ao off' into chat. By creating a gesture with a shortcut key (note the F5 selection at the top), and the scripted command in the 'Chat to Say' field, you'll only have to hit a single key for that script command to be executed in future.

I just wanted to add that a gesture doesn't have to be triggered with a slash. You can have it triggered by just a normal word. So if you set the trigger for you laughing to be, say, "haha" then any time you say "haha" anywhere in a sentence, the getsure would be triggered.

With regards gestures, a forward slash trigger works anywhere on the chat line.

Walker, it doesn't work that way for me. I tried it. In fact, the ONLY way I could get a slash command gesture to run was if it was in its own chat line, with no text either before or after it.
